Hello,
Thank you for contacting support.
Canonicalizing the English page to the German one will not transfer link juice or authority to the English page. Canonical tags are primarily used to indicate the preferred version of a page for search engines and do not pass authority between pages.
If you want to retain link juice across different language versions, you should:
– Use the hreflang attribute to specify language and regional targeting. This helps search engines understand that the English and German pages are alternate versions of the same content. Your translation plugin should add the hreflang tag.
– Build separate authority for the English pages by acquiring relevant backlinks and optimizing content.
While Rank Math will help you control SEO titles/descriptions, and control a lot of other important SEO settings. To handle the “multiple languages” part, you need a Multilingual Plugin like the TranslatePress plugin or WPML plugin, which integrates perfectly with Rank Math.
If you are using the TranslatePress plugin you can follow this guide on how to translate SEO titles and Meta descriptions: https://rankmath.com/kb/multiple-languages-seo-rankmath-translatepress/#translate-tile-description.
Then if you decide to use the WPML plugin, this guide will be of assistance to you: https://rankmath.com/kb/multilingual-seo-wpml/#translating-meta.
We hope this helps. Please let us know if you have further questions or concerns.
Thank you.
