Description is not showing on SERP

I use RM all the time and I’ve never before seen this type of thing. The title and description boxes are filled in on ever single page, and on every single page only the title shows up on SERPS and just the first 2 words of the description.

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with the meta descriptions not showing correctly in the SERPs. It’s not uncommon for Google to choose not to display the meta description you’ve set, and instead show a different snippet based on what it deems more relevant to the search query.

Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot this issue:

    1. Check What You Have Set Using Rank Math: Ensure that the meta title and description are correctly set in the Rank Math settings for each page. You can refer to our guide on editing meta titles and descriptions.
Editing Meta Title and Description using Classic Editor

    2. Inspect the Page’s Source Code: Make sure that the meta description is present in the page’s source code. You can do this by right-clicking on your page and selecting "View Page Source". Look for the “ tag.

    3. Check Google Search Console: Use the URL Inspection Tool in Google Search Console to see how Google views your page. This will show you the last crawl date and whether Google has indexed your latest changes. If it hasn’t, you can request indexing.
      Inspect URL on GSC

    4. Understand Google’s Behavior: Sometimes, Google may choose to display a different snippet based on its algorithms, especially if it finds content on your page that better matches the user’s search intent. This is beyond your control, but ensuring your meta description is relevant and high-quality can help.

If you’ve checked all of these and are still having issues, we recommend replying to this ticket with your site URL so that a human agent from our support team can assist you further. Thank you for raising this concern!

    Hello,

The max-snippet:12 robots meta tag value is set in your page’s source code. This means only 12 characters will be shown for your meta description.

To fix this, head over to Rank Math > Titles & Meta > Global Meta and set it to -1

    max

If you have modified it per page, then you should update the value manually by editing those pages under the Advanced tab.

    Looking forward to helping you.
