I have set the option of attachments in titles & meta to noindex and then edited the media files i needed indexed.
But this is not a fix and you should have a premenant fix for this issue

The deleted images are showing in the attachment-sitemap.xml due to cache.
Please follow these steps clear the sitemap caching and exclude sitemap files from cache:
1. Flush the Sitemap cache by following this video screencast:

2. Exclude the Sitemap files of the Rank Math plugin in your caching plugin. The cache could be via a plugin or from the server. For plugins or Cloudflare, please follow this article:
