Hi,
I’ve configured
%name% - %excerpt%as a default description in Titles & Meta for the Posts post-type. But I’ve always to set it again in each post, it hasn’t become default. Could you point me what could be the reason?Thank you!

Well, I’ve found that creating a new post Rank Math description starts showing the
%name% -part but after filling the excerpt it changes and shows only the excerpt.Thank you!
Hello,
Thank you for contacting Rank Math and bringing your concern to our attention. I’m sorry for any inconvenience this issue may have caused you.
The variable
%name%is not included in our list of supported values. You can also check the link below for more information:
https://rankmath.com/kb/variables-in-seo-title-description/And that is the reason why only the excerpt is showing. If you wanted to display your site’s name, you should use
%sitename%instead.I hope that helps. Thank you, and please don’t hesitate to contact us if you need further assistance.
Well, sorry but I’m talking about the description. The
%name%variable is for displaying the author nicename, and I’m able to select it the variables list as Post Author.https://rankmath.com/kb/variables-in-seo-title-description/#34-post-author
Thank you!
Hello,
The excerpt should show if there is any content added to your page. Assuming you are using the latest version of all the plugins and the themes (please update if not yet), it would seem like a conflict with one of the plugins or the theme you are using.
To determine that, please follow this troubleshooting guide:
https://rankmath.com/kb/check-plugin-conflicts/Only the site admin would know and your users won’t be affected by this troubleshooting.
If the issue persists, please record a video screencast using a tool like Loom showing the troubleshooting and edit the first post on this ticket and include your WordPress & FTP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.
It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/temporary-login-without-password/
You can use the above plugin in conjunction with the WP Security Audit Log to monitor what changes our staff might make on your website (if any):
https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-security-audit-log/
Please do take a complete backup of your website before sharing the information with us.
We really look forward to helping you.
Hello,
I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?
Thank you.
Hello,
You mentioned that after filling the excerpt, it changes and shows only the excerpt.
Looking at your video when you fill %name% %excerpt% it does show correctly, with author name and excerpt.
Is this not what you want it to display?
Hello,
I want to display
%name% - %excerpt%in all posts by default. That is why I’ve changed the Titles & Meta default description field. When in a post I fill the excerpt Rank Math takes only the
%excerpt%part and not the authors%name%. What I don’t want is to have to fill again the%name% - %excerpt%in each post since it is declared in defaults.Thank you!
Hello,
To check, have you set this on your Global Meta?
Go to Rank Math > Titles & Meta > Post Type > Posts and you can set them there. See screenshot here: https://i.rankmath.com/tPrfDq
I hope this resolves your issue.
Yes, I have done that, you can check in the video. That is why I started this ticket.
Thank you!
Hello,
Thank you for following up.
For the default meta description to be not overwritten after typing the excerpt, you may need to use this filter to force the Global Meta description.
https://rankmath.com/kb/filters-hooks-api-developer/#use-global-meta-descriptionYou can follow the video screencast at this link:
https://i.rankmath.com/S9FmSxPlease also note that you can ignore the live preview as the filter processing occurs after the page loads in the browser.
I hope that helps. Thank you, and looking forward to your update.
