Default Open Graph Image showing despite adding image to specific taxonomy pages

    Rank Math free

    Hello,
I use the Directories Pro plugin to display a directory on my site – https://directoriespro.com/

I’ve turned on all of the RankMath settings to be able to edit the social media settings for the custom post type / custom taxonomy pages created by the plugin including directory category pages.

Then on each of the category pages I have added a Facebook image under the RankMath social settings. I made sure it is a JPG and is 1200x600px.

Unfortunately Facebook is still using the Default Open Graph Image for these pages, and the page source code confirms this. I’ve tried troubleshooting and still can’t figure out the issue.

Here is an example – https://lakelandmom.com/guide/birthday-party-venues/
This is the image it should be using – https://lakelandmom.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Birthday-Party-Places-Lakeland-Florida.jpg
Instead the og:image is my Default Open Graph Image.

For other pages and posts the og:image is the image I’ve specified.

Any ideas on why this setting isn’t working?

    Thank you!

  • Hello April,

Thank you for your query. We will be super-happy to help you with your concern.

That is good that you added the image in the category page in the Rank Math panel.
Perhaps the reason why it is not showing is due to your site’s caching, if your site has caching.

The browser cache option in most cache plugins like W3 Total Cache is known to not play well with Facebook’s OpenGraph detection. If you have it enabled, disable it. The option for W3 Total Cache is at WP > Performance > Browser Cache > HTTP (gzip) compression

Then, clear your website and server cache (including Cloudflare – if enabled)Once you are done, you might want to test again here:

    https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/

    Click the Scrape Again button:

If that fails, leave us your WP admin access in sensitive data field.

We hope that helps and we are here should you have any follow-up questions.

Thank you. I use WP Rocket. Are you suggesting I turn off GZIP Compression permanently?

Is there any explanation of why all of my normal pages work fine, it is only the directory pages that are not pulling the specified image?

    Hello,

The gzip browser cache option in most cache plugins like W3 Total Cache is known to not play well with Facebook’s Open Graph detection:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/open-graph-image-not-displaying/#num-4-6-gzip-compression

However, since you have already applied the image in Rank Math’s social media meta box, then the image should be added in the og:image tag.

In this case, we might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WordPress & FTP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.

Please do take a complete backup of your website before sharing the information with us.
