**Flushing permalinks does not fix the problem

Hi, I have a custom taxonomy called “Models” and want a sitemap for it. However, despite setting it up correctly in RankMath (https://gyazo.com/eb5dc2abc2f7c4ca02eb422bb709c563) that sitemap returns a 404 error.

I’ve disabled cache, and tried flushing permalinks, but it’s still returning a 404.

    Thanks for your help,
    Chris

  • Hello,

Assuming you are using the latest version of all the plugins and the themes (please update if not yet), it would seem like a conflict with one of the plugins or the theme you are using.

To determine that, please follow this troubleshooting guide:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/check-plugin-conflicts/

Please let me know if you find the culprit.

Only the site admin would know and your users won’t be affected by this troubleshooting.

    Looking forward to helping you.

Hi, troubleshooting mode in Health Check plugin you suggested is not working. Other users are also having the same problem, I checked in the WordPress forums. I put in a service request, but in the meantime, can we try and troubleshoot this a different way?

I deactivated the most likely plugins and checked but the problem stays the same.

    Thanks,
    Chris

    Hi Chris,

Can you please enable the option to include empty taxonomies.

Please note that a sitemap will show a 404 in one of two cases:

    1. There is no content inside that taxonomy/category/tag.

    2. Anything present inside is marked as noindex.

With that said, can you please link us to one such post/URL you expect to see in the model sitemap file?

We look forward to hearing back from you.

Ok I see what the problem was – I had the taxonomies marked noindex by default because we only wanted certain ones to be indexed.

So we have to go into each one individually and mark it as noindex to have it not appear?

    Thanks,
    Chris

    HI Chris,

    Thanks for the reply.

I am glad that this information was helpful 🙂

Yes, you will need to edit each of the affected categories and set them to index to fix this.

I hope this helps! Thank you.
