Let us help you here. First, make sure that you are using the latest version of WordPress, all the plugins, and your current theme. You can check all available updates in your WordPress Dashboard > Updates. See screenshot below:
Regarding your Health check issue, the Health Check Troubleshooting plugin will disable all the plugins ONLY for the administrator (so you can check which plugin/theme is causing the issue). Hi Jeremy,upon further investigation it looks like the Rank Math SEO plugin is the problem.
What do you suggest is the best option as I would like to continue tying out this plugin but would like this issue and I would also like to solve the first issue too with disappearing meta description in pages.

Can you please check if you are using the recommended PHP version and the WordPress version? There is a chance that you are using very old plugin versions and when you updated them with the PHP version left behind, it causes multiple issues. To use Rank Math, it is recommended to have up to date system versions so your website could run smoothly. You may refer to this article: https://rankmath.com/kb/requirements/

As I mentioned I have rarely updated WordPress, so could well be what you mentioned about outdated versions being the cause of the issue.
This is what I currently have:
WordPress version 5.6
Current theme: Twenty Fourteen (version 2.9)
Current plugin: Rank Math SEO (version 1.0.56.1)
PHP version 7.2.34
Right now I can only access my site through recovery mode.
I will download the plugin you mentioned for temporary login- as I think I will need the help you offer.
To be honest I do not know the FTP login details, so this plugin will be the ideal way to receive help from you.
I will add the temporary password for you by editing my first post and adding the info in the sensitive areas as you instructed.

I was attempting to access your WordPress admin and I can’t seem to enter your Dashboard as a critical error is occurring.
Here are things we can try.
1. If you have recovery access to your dashboard, please disable Rank Math temporarily so I can check for the error logs to see what’s causing the critical error. You may disable the plugin manually by heading to your CPanel’s file manager, locate your website’s root directory, and there head over to wp-content > plugins and rename “seo-by-rank-math” folder.
2. Share your CPanel login so we can see the error logs and manually disable Rank Math ourselves and troubleshoot the problem.

I am not able to enter CPanel for this site!
My husband does not want me rooting around in there as a way to avoid me messing up anything as all our websites with WordPress are linked there.
This does make fixing errors [like this!!!!!] difficult!!!
Can I simply delete the Rank Math plugin and start again?

Yes, you may delete the current Rank Math Plugin and install a new copy. https://wordpress.org/plugins/seo-by-rank-math/. Your old Rank Math settings will not be removed after re-installing the plugin.
But before you install it again, let’s try to avoid the critical error. Can you send me the error logs so I can determine what’s causing the critical error in the first place?

I am about to go into family dinner mode and so may not be able to respond to you as i have been, but I will be checking my email in a few hours and may hear word from you in regards to these errors and as you said, how to avoid making such a critical error again – as i would like to use rank math again.
I do wonder if I have everything in place, re activate the rank math plugin – maybe i will not run into the initial issue of disappearing meta descriptions in the edit page snippets sections?

It looks like you updated from a very old version of Rank Math. You might have skipped at least 10 different updates.
Can you please talk to your web host or your husband and ask them to delete the rank_math_version option from the wp_options table? We compare the value from this option with the current version before running the routine file.
We would have done it for you but the login link you provided is no longer working.

No wonder there were problems!
I cannot ask my web host or my husband right now to help me.
If I provide you with access to my account via the same temporary password as we did today – will you be able to delete the unwanted versions?
Today I allowed a temp password for you guys that was valid for three hours. I can do the same tomorrow [28th Jan] and can make it longer so as to ensure you the access you need in order to hep me.
It is late where i live now, so I will go, but I will be online first thing in the morning to see if we can try again after I have given you the new temporary password.
Just now i deactivated the Rank Math plugin – I have not fully deleted it.
Please let me know if I need to delete it completely.

We created a test post called The Test Post and customized the meta title, description, and the focus keyword – all saved without issue.
