There are only 3 things mentioned:
1. remove inactive plugins
2. old sql server, suggested to upgrade the db to MariaDB 10.5
3. use of persistent object caching.
Removed inactive plugins but problem still exists.
Old sql database that would lead to this problem?
Not sure how caching would resolve the search problem throwing a WP critical error. I don’t think this has anything to do with the error & Rankmath.

Please head over to WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math > General Settings > Breadcrumbs and change the “Search Results Format” to: Search for %s
Please note that the %s should not be changed; only the other portion of the text can be modified.
Once done, clear your website’s cache and see if that fixes the issue.

Our RM breadcrumb functions was turned off.
When turning on I see the that the default search page format is: Search for ‘%’
