Connecting Google Analytics to a site that uses a proxy

Hello. My client uses a proxy to protect access to editing the website. The main URL for the site, visible to the public, is atum.bio. The URL that is only accessible via VPN to edit the site is atumbio.com. When we tried to set up RankMath after going live, we ran into an issue where the site URL (for the proxied site – atumbio.com) was showing up instead of the actual URL for the live website – atum.bio. Do you have any work around to resolve this issue or would we need to manually connect the site to Google Analytics via a script in the header?

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with connecting Google Analytics to your site that uses a proxy. It seems that the URL being displayed is the one accessible via VPN, which can complicate the setup process.

In this case, you might consider manually connecting Google Analytics by adding the tracking script directly to the header of your website. This approach ensures that the correct URL (atum.bio) is tracked without interference from the proxy settings.

To do this, you can follow these steps:

    1. Log in to your Google Analytics account and get the tracking code for your property.
    2. Access your website’s code or use a plugin that allows you to insert custom scripts into the header.
    3. Paste the Google Analytics tracking code into the header section of your website.
    4. Save the changes and verify that data is being collected in your Google Analytics account.
