Changing Root Domains After Creating Redirects

    To Whom It May Concern,

I’ve began creating a series of redirects for a domain that is now on a test server (e.g. staging-server.com). I want to make the website live and maintain the redirects I have set (e.g. at production-server.com). If I have creating my redirects with paths, will the redirects be maintained after the new root domain takes effect or will the redirects be stuck with the old staging-server.com prefixes that they were originally set up with?

    Thanks,
    Aryeh on behalf of David

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing. When you create redirects in Rank Math, they are typically set up relative to the domain. If you have created redirects using paths (e.g., /old-path), these should work correctly when you switch to the new root domain (e.g., production-server.com).

However, if your redirects include the full URL with the old domain (e.g., `https://rankmath.com/services), then those redirects will not automatically update to the new domain and will still point to the old one.

To ensure that your redirects work correctly after changing the root domain, it’s best to set them up using relative paths. This way, they will automatically apply to whatever domain your site is currently using.

If you have any further questions or need assistance with specific redirects, please feel free to reply to this ticket, and a human agent from our support team will assist you further.

Thank you for raising this concern!
