Changing domain names and keeping SEO rating

    I wonder if I could seek your wise guidance, please!

    I have a community domain which is over 20 years old. {community}-village.co.uk comes up No 1 with Bing and Google when searching with {community}

    I also have two other domains names which point to the one above {community}.org and {community}.org.uk – 10 and 5 years old respectively

    I should like to swap {community}-village.co.uk with {community}.org for a shorter URL but am concerned that this will kill the SEO ranking. Is it worth the risk/hassle?

  • Hello,

    Thank you for getting in touch with us.

    The process of changing domains while trying to maintain Ranking is not as easy as said. The first thing you should make sure that the domain you are moving to is accessible and indexable. If you still have access to the Ranking domain after moving, you can set up 301 redirects to the shorter domain to ensure you pass the Ranking juice through to your new domain.

    Here are is an article you can check and a Google support answer on a similar topic. i believe these will explain it better than we could in our reply

    Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.
