Change Shared Facebook Content Elements

    Hi,

yesterday we have used RankMath’s SOCIAL-Tab to prepare OpenGraph-Content for Facebook. After finishing this step, we opened Facebook and pasted the frontend-URL of this page and posted the Facebook post. All RM OpenGraph content has been perfectly used.

Question A) – Change OpenGraph content afterwards
Today the client wanted us to change the already posted OpenGraph content of this post. For this reason we did the following steps, but it didn’t work

    1) Changed OpenGraph content (picture AND Title AND Description text) in the Social-Tab in RankMath and saved
    2) Opened Facebook Debug tool (https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/sharing/) and rescraped the site. All the new content (image, title, description) was now showing perfectly correct in the Facebook Debug tool.
    3) Visited the Facebook page in an icognito browser with cleared frontend cache => but here the old content (image, title, description) was still visible.

    Now our question:
How is the correct process of changing Facebook content with RankMath so that the new content will be shown on Facebook too, not only in the debug tool?

Question B) – Facebook Authorship not working
In RankMath-settings we have edited the customers PRIVATE Facebook profile URL in “SEO Titles & Meta” / Tab “Social Meta” / Field “Facebook Authorship”. As we have learned, doing this should present the name of the client as an author UNDER the description of the OpenGraph post.

    Now our question:
The name of the customer isn’t showing here. The description is the last element of the facebook post, but the author-line is missing. How do we get the name of the customer into to Facebook post?

Or would it be possible that it didn’t work, because WE as an agency and as an admin of the clients site posted the post and not the client himself? Could this be the reason why it’s not showing up?

Thanks in advance for your help an best regards!
    Michael

    Hi Michael,

Thanks for getting in touch with us.

    A. Since it is working perfectly fine in the debug tool, it suggests Facebook is still pulled the content from their internal cache. This is completely normal and usually takes 24 hours for Facebook to “see” your new information.

    B. Is the article:author information being printing in the source code? Can you please share a link so we can check? Please note that the author name turns clickable only when you allow users to follow the profile. Here are the instructions for that:

    https://www.facebook.com/settings?tab=followers

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.

    Hello,

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

    Hi Todd,

    A) it has already been 2 days and Facebook is still showing the old information … is there a way how to check this in real live-world (besides using incognito-browser) … so that it’s sure, that it doesn’t show the old information due to device-caching reasons?

    B) I have put the URL in the sensitive data field

    Thank you very much!
    Michael

    Hi Michael,

    A. If you are using the same file name, please change the file name. Then, go to the FB debug took and hit the Scrape again button.

    B. I hit the scrape button for you here: https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug

Please check if you see the new image there.

    Hi Todd,

    A. Thanks, but we have used another picture filename as before, because we inserted a completely new image … this is obviosly not the working solution ;-(

Furthermore, we changed title and description of the OpenGraph in RankMath, but these pieces of information still are the same on Live-Facebook ;-(

    B. Yes, we have used this tool, too

    Hi Michael,

Is the information you see on debug tool the current information you want to share or it is the outdated information?

If so, what is the current information?

The information on the debug tool is the correct one, but in the facebook feed of the client is still the old one shown

    Hi there,

We might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.
    Sensitive Data Section

It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/temporary-login-without-password/

You can use the above plugin in conjunction with the WP Security Audit Log to monitor what changes our staff might make on your website (if any):

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-security-audit-log/

We really look forward to helping you.

    Hi Michael,

I have already found another solution, because I don’t think that it will help if you take a look into the backend. If I use the facebook-debugger-tool, the correct data as entered in RankMath is shown … so it is probably another problem apart from RankMath, I guess 😉

I will just hide the old posts in the Facebook timeline and re-post them with the new RankMath OpenGraph information … this will work for now!

Thank your very much for your help, though it didn’t solve the problem 😉

    Best regards
    Michael
