Hello,
Thank you for contacting the support, and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.
Assuming you are using the latest version of all the plugins and the themes (please update if not yet), it would seem like a conflict with one of the plugins or the theme you are using.
To determine that, please follow this troubleshooting guide:
https://rankmath.com/kb/check-plugin-conflicts/Here is a video you can follow as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FcIWRhcUP2c
Only the site admin would know and your users won’t be affected by this troubleshooting.
If the issue persists, please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WordPress login in the designated Sensitive Data section.
Please do take a complete backup of your website before sharing the information with us.
It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/temporary-login-without-password/
You can use the above plugin in conjunction with the WP Security Audit Log to monitor what changes our staff might make on your website (if any):

Please do take a complete backup of your website before sharing the information with us.
We really look forward to helping you.
Hello,
I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?
Thank you.
Hello,
I was able to replicate the issue on your website.
The
updateMeta
route is returning a 404 error. Please take a backup of your
.htaccess
file and replace it with the default WordPress.htaccess
file. You can get the file here: https://wordpress.org/support/article/htaccess/You can follow this guide to edit the
.htaccess
file:
https://rankmath.com/kb/edit-htaccess/Once done, clear your website cache and check again.
If the issue persists, please share the FTP login details in the sensitive data section so we can check further.
We look forward to helping you.

Hello,
On your website, access to the REST API is only available if we add
index.php
in front of the URL which is an indication that themod_rewrite
module from Apache is likely not enabled on your website. We recommend getting in touch with your hosting provider about this situation and making sure that is enabled so the URLs can be accessed without the
index.php
in front of the URL.Hope this helps solve your issues.
Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any other questions.
mod_rewrite
is enabled by default on apache servers and yes, it’s enabled on mine also.I’m having this issue since i updated rank math plugin few days ago.
Hello,
Did you make some changes to the website regarding the issue we mentioned?
Because now we can see that the
mod_rewrite
is working as expected and the route to update the metadata is also returning a 200 successful status on your website.Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any other questions.
No, nothing has been changed. Still i can’t use keywords and descriptions saved on a posts or pages.
Hello,
The route used to update the metadata is returning a 500 error now, and those are server-related errors.
Assuming that you have the error log enabled on your server you should more information about this error there and with the error message, we can pinpoint the issues easier.
Please check the error message on the server log and revert back to us so we can debug the situation further.
Looking forward to hearing back from you.
Hello,
I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?
Thank you.
I followed this guide also: https://rankmath.com/kb/meta-data-not-saving/#firewall I added those links to the ignore list on a server level also and no luck.
Again, this happens since the plugin was updated few days ago.
Hello,
That error is not related to this situation. The error should include a mention of our plugin somewhere in the message.
Please make sure that PHP error logging is also enabled so the errors from PHP are logged as well. After enabling this please try to save a couple of posts and update the focus keywords to trigger the error and see the error log after that.
The PHP error log can then be disabled after you see the error is added to the log.
Looking forward to helping you.
Completed. The issue is with the plugin. I created a new blog post and keywords were working, but not description. Then I created a 3rd post both worked. The plugin is bugged, not the server, or hosting issue.
Hello,
