Can't find a redirection - Support

Hi,

thanks for a great plugin first of all.

I’m having difficulty locating why certain URLs are ignoring the redirect rules I’ve setup in RM.

For example:
I want this url: https://www.chemistryjokes.com/jokes/what-do-you-call-an-acid-with-an-attitude/
To 301 redirect to: https://www.chemistryjokes.com/what-do-you-call-an-acid-with-an-attitude/

But when I set it up, it redirects to homepage instead and I’m not sure why it is happening.
I’ve tried everything in this article: https://rankmath.com/kb/unwanted-urls-redirecting/, but it’s still redirecting to the homepage and not the page I want.

Can you help please?

We might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WordPress logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.

Hello,

The issue on your website is happening because there’s an attachment with the same name and you have the option to redirect attachments enabled thus causing the page to redirect to the homepage.

You can find the option under WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math > General Settings > Links:

If you disable that option the redirection works fine.

So, you can either rename the attachment to something different or disable this option entirely on your website.

Thanks a lot, this has helped me to solve the problem.

Last question – do you know why for some of the pages I need to setup a redirect and some redirect to correct url automatically?

For example:

https://www.chemistryjokes.com/jokes/what-do-you-do-with-a-dead-chemist/ – this one redirects without me adding a redirect rule in RM.

And some other ones- I need to add a redirect rule.

Is it related to file attachement names too?

Hello,

I’ve checked your site, and it seems that your posts’ permalinks are set to only to /%postname%/ on your WordPress dashboard > Settings > Permalinks, that’s why the /jokes/ in the URL you have provided is getting removed.
