    Hi,
During site audit through Ahref, I got this message of Canonical urls with no incoming tinternal links.
This has many urls marked as “canonical urls without inlinks” and other set of urls marked as “links to non canonical versions”.

    Any help?

    regards
    bheem

  • Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Rank Math support and we’re sorry for any inconvenience this error may have caused you.

We were not able to visit your pages because we got an access denied error, but, let us explain what this error you’re getting means and how you can fix it.

The error “Canonical URL has no incoming internal links” means that the URL you’ve set as the canonical one for a page doesn’t have any other pages on your site linking to it. This can happen if you’ve recently changed the canonical URL of a page or if you have duplicate content on different URLs.

The easiest way to fix this is by linking to your canonical URL from other relevant pages on your site. You can do this by inserting a link to the canonical URL in the text of the page, etc.

You can read more about this error here:

We hope this helps you understand the issue better. If you have any other questions or concerns, please let us know.

Thank you for choosing Rank Math!

    Hello, thanks for the reply.

I still have the error after minor changes.
Can you check the mentioned urls now as I have temporarily disabled firewall.

    Thank you.

    Hello,

    Thank you for your patience.

The links you have shared are attachment pages.

When you upload a media file to the WordPress Media Library, WordPress creates a separate media attachment page for each individual file, and having the attachment pages as “noindex” or redirecting to the parent page is actually the preferred method to handle those and we mention the same here:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/should-you-redirect-attachments/

These attachment pages usually have very thin content and thus they’re not beneficial from an SEO perspective.

If you do not have an image/attachment-centric website, we suggest redirecting the attachment pages to their parent page.

    Hope that helps.

    Thank you.
