    Hello dear Rankmath Team,

We have issues submitting our sitemaps to google search console bcs it is set to noindex from your default settings for sitemaps. I dont know if that is new in GSC but it is a serious issue. I understand why you dont want the sitemap to be found with google, but this is actively preventing sitemaps being added manually to GSC.

I had to deactivate the robot txt settings from rankmath via php code, and upload my own robot.txt. It was a several hours long workaround until I figured out why it happened, and what I can do.

Thats surely not a feature. Why I have a SEO plugin that offers sitemaps, and then the sitemaps are not able to add to GSC.

What can I do about it? I am fearing thats happening for all my sites and client sites.

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with submitting your sitemaps to Google Search Console due to the robots.txt settings. It sounds frustrating, and we appreciate you bringing this concern to our attention.

To address the issue, please ensure that your robots.txt file does not block the sitemap. You can check and edit your robots.txt settings in Rank Math by navigating to Rank Math SEO → General Settings → Edit robots.txt. Make sure there are no rules that prevent Google from accessing your sitemap.

If you want to add your sitemap to Google Search Console, you should submit the correct XML sitemap URL, which is typically found at `https://rankmath.com/kb/indexed-though-blocked-by-robots-txt-error/. Ensure that this URL is accessible and not blocked by any rules in your robots.txt file.

    Hello,

We understand your concern about the sitemap being set as ‘noindex’, but we assure you that this is how it should be.

The reason is that we don’t want Google to index the sitemap itself, we only want them to index the pages and posts that are listed on the sitemap. The sitemap is just a way to tell Google what pages and posts you have on your website, not a page that you want to show up in search results.

The important thing is that your pages and posts are set to ‘index’, which means that they are eligible to appear in Google search results.

You can check this by looking at the Rank Math settings on each page or post, or by using the Google URL Inspection tool.

To make sure that Google knows about your sitemap and can crawl your pages and posts, you need to submit your sitemap to Google Search Console.

This is a simple process that you can follow by using our tutorial: https://rankmath.com/kb/submit-sitemap-to-google/

We hope this helps. Please let us know if you have further questions or concerns.

    Thank you.
