Bug Report: Meta Description Not Propagating to Search Engines Properly

    Hello,

The meta description I enter in the “Snippet Preview” (see screenshot) is never picked up by Google. However, after checking in the RankMath settings, I also noticed that the sample meta description shown is not correctly reflected at this level either (see screenshot).

Could you please clarify what’s going on? And help resolve this issue, as the information is not being correctly passed to search engines.

    Thank you!

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with the meta description not propagating to search engines properly. Thank you for raising this concern.

To troubleshoot this issue, please follow these steps:

    1. Check What You Have Set Using Rank Math: Ensure that you have correctly set the SEO Meta Title and Description in the Rank Math settings. You can refer to the following guides:

      • For the Classic Editor:
Editing Meta Title and Description using Classic Editor
      • For Gutenberg:
Editing Meta Title and Description in Gutenberg
    2. Ensure Your Schema Settings Are Valid: Check that the settings in Rank Math’s Schema tab for the post or page are correct. The Headline should show %seo_title% and the Description should show %seo_description%.

    3. Check the Title/Description Set in the Page’s Source Code: Right-click on your page and select View page source to ensure that your title and description are set up properly in the page source. Alternatively, you can use an online tool like HeyMeta to check this.
Check the Title and Meta description set in the page's source code

    4. The Latest Version of Your Page Hasn’t Been Indexed: Use the URL Inspection Tool in Google Search Console to check if Google has indexed the latest version of your page. If it hasn’t, you can request indexing to prompt Google to re-crawl your page.

If after following these steps the issue persists, please reply to this ticket with your site URL so we can assist you further. A human agent from our support team will take over and provide more specific help.

    Thank you for your patience!

    Hello,

Please note that the snippet preview in the Titles & Meta section is only an example and won’t match the ones from your posts.

Additionally, this option only works when the description field is left empty while editing the post.

If you have already input a customized description while editing your posts (like in your screenshot), it will not be affected by the single description in Titles & Meta settings, as it acts as a default value only.

    Looking forward to helping you.
