Buddypress Groups directory page meta title issue

    Hello,
    I have the buddypress module enabled and I was able to set the meta titles for the buddypress groups single pages, that works as expected.

    However, the buddypress groups directory page shows the single groups meta title. Is there a way to change the meta title for the groups directory page?

    So, instead of it being “- group – My Uni House” it will be “Groups – My Uni House”.

    I can’t change the meta title through page editing because the page is used by buddypress and does not show up in the pages. I tried going to the database and changing the page type back to “page” instead of “buddypress” and I tried setting the meta title that way but it still shows “- group – My Uni House”

    This problem does not seem to effect the activity or members directory pages, only the groups directory page.

    Thank you

    Hello,

    Thank you for contacting Rank Math support.

    The Groups page is generated dynamically and that’s why you can’t manage its title in the backend. You will have to use the following filter to update its title:

    add_filter( 'rank_math/frontend/title', function( $title ) {
    	$url = home_url($_SERVER['REQUEST_URI']);
    	if($url == 'https://myunihouse.co.uk/groups/') {
    		return 'Groups Archive'; // Title you want to use for the group page
    	}
    	return $title;
    });

    Here is how to add a filter to your site: https://rankmath.com/kb/wordpress-hooks-actions-filters/

    Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.

    Thank you! That worked.

    Is it possible to do the same for setting the meta description?

    Also I’ve set the meta title for my search pages as %search_query% %sep% Search %sep% %sitename% but when I search something the search term is not showing. I do use a search plugin but this also happens when the plugin is deactivated and using the theme’s default search. How do I get the search query to show?

    Kind Regards

    Hello,

    You can use the following filter to update the meta description of the Groups page:

    add_filter( 'rank_math/frontend/description', function( $description ) {
    	$url = home_url($_SERVER['REQUEST_URI']);
    	if($url == 'https://myunihouse.co.uk/groups/') {
    		return 'Groups Archive'; // Description you want to use for the group page
    	}
    	return $description;
    });

    Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.

    Thank you!

    And one last thing, I’ve set the meta title for my search pages as %search_query% %sep% Search %sep% %sitename% but when I search something the search term is not showing. I do use a search plugin but this also happens when the plugin is deactivated and using the theme’s default search.

    How do I get the search query to show?

    Hello,

    Assuming you are using the latest version of all the plugins and the themes (please update if not yet), it would seem like a conflict with one of the plugins or the theme you are using.

    To determine that, please follow this troubleshooting guide:

    Here is a video you can follow as well:

    Only the site admin would know and your users won’t be affected by this troubleshooting.

    We really look forward to helping you.

    I deactivated all plugins but it turns out it is a theme conflict issue, I am using Betheme.

    Hello,

    In that case, you should check their settings to confirm if they add the meta title to the search page and disable it. If you can’t find the option, you should get in touch with their support as they might already have a solution for this.

    Please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.
