breadcrumbs

Is it possible to add two categories via breadcrumbs?

    Home > Blog > Category 1 > Category 2

Whereby, Category 1 is the parent (primary). Or are we limited to one category? For SEO, our advisor is suggesting primary and secondary.

    Thanks!

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

Breadcrumbs are used to indicate the path Google and other search engines should follow to reach your page from the homepage.

So in your case, since you set two categories for the post, Google will have two paths to reach the post:

    Home > Category 1 > Post
    Home > Category 2 > Post

If you enter to the post from each of those categories, you will see the breadcrumbs changing to display the category you are using.

And usually it is not good, since it can make Google think it is duplicated content. That is why you usually set one of those URLs as the canonical one, so Google understand they are the same one just with different paths.

Hope it is more clear now, but if not just ask us and we will help you with this.

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

    Hello,

Those categories you see on the website you shared with us are not breadcrumbs but just some category links added by the theme they are using.

If you want to do the same, you should check if your theme allows you to do that, and if not I would recommend asking your theme support since it would be just a few lines of code and I am sure they could help you with that fast.

    Looking forward to help you.

    Thanks.
