When I update any content on the page or a post/blog whatever it automatically creates a slug which is already created with different page name and it adds 2 at the end of the slug.

It is really frustrating. Can someone look into this.

Please dont copy paste your replies like
    Permalink Settings:
    Plugin Conflicts:
    Caching Issues:

etc…. Everything is fine and it only happens coz of RankMath plugin

I need real solution, i saw some response that it was a schema error and later it got sorted.

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with the automatic slug creation when updating your content. It sounds frustrating to have slugs duplicated with a number added at the end.

This behavior typically occurs when there is a conflict with existing slugs in your WordPress site. When you create or update a post, WordPress checks for existing slugs to ensure they are unique. If a slug already exists, it appends a number to make it unique.

Here are a few steps you can take to resolve this issue:

    1. Check Existing Slugs: Ensure that there are no other posts or pages using the same slug. You can do this by searching for the slug in your WordPress dashboard.
    2. Remove Duplicate Posts: If you have duplicate posts or pages, consider removing or renaming them to avoid conflicts.
    3. Schema Markup: As you mentioned, there was a schema error related to duplicating posts. If you have existing Schema Markup on the page you’re updating, it might be worth checking if removing and re-adding the Schema resolves the issue. You can find more about fixing duplicate posts and Schema errors in our guide.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, please reply to this ticket with your site URL so we can investigate further. A human agent from our support team will take over and provide more specific assistance.

Thank you for bringing this concern to our attention!

    Hello,

Thank you for your query and we are so sorry about the trouble this must have caused.

Please note that the slug of your posts/pages is controlled by WordPress and when it finds a duplicate slug, it automatically includes -2.

If you’re not able to find any post/page on your website with this same URL, we suggest you check your website database and remove the URL from there.

Also, this situation also happens when the Redirect Attachments option is enabled on your site, and you have a media or attachment URL with the same slug.

To fix that, you can re-upload the media with a different file name or at least rename the attachment URL to a different slug to avoid getting the -2 or -3 in the last part of the URL as you mentioned.

Hope that helps and please don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any other questions.

I have done that everything is fine with the settings, after reading other tickets I have raised so please dont come up with same solutions where you have already copy pasted.

    Hello,

In this case, we might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WordPress & FTP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.

Please do take a complete backup of your website before sharing the information with us.

    Sensitive Data Section

It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/temporary-login-without-password/

You can use the above plugin in conjunction with the WP Security Audit Log to monitor what changes our staff might make on your website (if any):

We really look forward to helping you.
