Hi there,
We have posts that are deleted (via an import tool). How can we automatically asign a 410 for deleted posts?
Thanks in advance!

Hello,
Thank you for contacting Rank Math, and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.
410 Content Deleted should be used when you’re sure that you want to delete a particular page completely. If a URL returns a 410, Google knows for sure you removed the URL on purpose, and it should remove that URL from its index the earliest and stop crawling the page further.
Rank Math supports 410 Content Deleted maintenance code that you can use when the content in question has been deleted, and no suitable replacement is available.
To do so, please navigate to your WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math > Dashboard > Modules > Enable the redirection module:
Please make sure, that you have the
Advanced Modeenabled on the Dashboard:Once done, navigate to your WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math > Redirections > Add new redirection > Add a Source URL > Select the 401 option and add the redirection.
Here is a screencast for your reference.
Here are two of our Knowledge Base articles on redirections that might come in handy:

We hope this answers your question. Please let us know if you need help with anything else.
Thank you
Thank you!
But this is the instruction for a manual redirect. We need to set it up automatically for all deleted posts.
I see there is an Auto Redirect option? Does this add a 410 for deleted posts too?Hello,
The Auto Post Redirect option redirects the old URL to the new one, with a 301 redirection, when the permalink of a post is changed. Here’s a guide regarding this: https://rankmath.com/kb/general-settings/#auto-post-redirect
Unfortunately, we do not have an option to automatically assign 410 redirections to the deleted contents.
Contents/data are deleted on a regular basis on most of the websites and many of those contents/data do not require any redirections. Automatically assigning 410s to all of them would only increase the database size hence this should be done manually in Rank Math.
Also, Google’s John Mueller has stated that you do not need to create 410 redirects for all the deleted contents as Google will drop pages with a 404 status.
It is totally fine to have 404 status on the deleted contents as 404 status does not affect the website rankings. You can read more about it here: https://developers.google.com/search/blog/2011/05/do-404s-hurt-my-site
Hope this helps.
Thank you.
Ok great, thank you!
