Thanks for the follow up.
Despite the fact that the page has been set to index on the Rank Math settings, the page source shows that there is another plugin or some theme code that is setting the page to noindex as shown below:

Got it! It’s a staging site and I have the WordPress Reading setting to disallow search engines. I removed this setting and I can see the canonical reference.
