Hello,
Thank you for contacting us and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.
After enabling the Auto Post Redirect option, when you change a slug of a URL, Rank Math automatically creates a 301 redirection for this URL.
In this case, you can check this redirection in WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math > Redirections. If you can see the redirection is there but not working then please head over to your WordPress Dashboard > Settings > Permalinks, and hit the “Save Changes” button (without making any changes) to clear the permalink cache.
Once done, please clear your website cache and see if that works for you.
Regarding the Primary Taxonomy, Rank Math by default doesn’t redirect when you change the primary taxonomy of your posts. You’ll have to manually create a redirection by using Rank Math for that.
Let us know how it goes. Looking forward to helping you.
Thank you.
Hi Siam,
No, if I publish a post where I have selected 2 categories, regardless of what i choose as the Primary Term, the same post shows for both URLs (I’ve set my permalink structure to have category in them). The same page in WordPress can’t have 2 URLs, so I hope you understand the issue.
Secondly the Auto Post redirect feature is not working. Earlier when i changed the permarlink, there would be a small dialogue box with ‘Auto Redirection Created’ appearing when i save the post. That also doesn’t appear now.
I’ve updated the Sensitive Data with a more detailed explanation for your reference.
Hello,
Thank you for your patience.
This is the default behavior of WordPress. You can try to deactivate Rank Math plugins and check again if the URLs exist on your site.
But when you activate Rank Math, it always includes the correct canonical URL on your posts so you don’t need to worry as it helps to avoid duplicate content issues.
For URL 1 & 2, the canonical is: /first-look-review/nissan-leaf-future-2022-2023/
For URL 3 & 4, the canonical is: /featured/modified-2025-toyota-camry-hybrid-custom/
If Google is somehow crawling or finding the incorrect URL, then you should use the URL inspection tool of your GSC account to find the referring page and figure out how Google is finding these URLs.
Regarding the auto-post redirect, could you please share the affected URL so we can check? The old URL and the new URL.
Please note that it applies to the post slug and not the category changes. The post slugs for the above URLs would be /nissan-leaf…/ and /modified-2025…/
Looking forward to helping you.
Hi Reinelle,
Thank you for your reply. I think the first issue on the 2 categories (canonical) was my misunderstanding. That is resolved.
Regarding the second issue, when I change the primary term, and the permalink changes to reflect the new category (my Permalink structure includes the post category), does Rankmath automatically redirect the original URL to the new one?
Hello,
As we already mentioned above the Rank Math auto post redirect doesn’t work when you change the primary category of a post. WordPress should automatically redirect the URLs, but if it doesn’t redirect them, you’ll have to create the redirection manually on your website.
Here’s how you can create a redirection by using Rank Math: https://rankmath.com/kb/how-to-create-a-redirection/
Hope that helps and please don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any other questions.

Thank you.
