Apostrophes in titles causing Rank Math SEO to not score high?

Hello – I was emailing Bhanu with a problem I was having and he suggested opening a ticket.

We are building a WP/Woo website that has song names in the titles, and some of them have apostrophes in the title (like the word Don’t).

Sometimes your plug in is ok with it, and scores it a 54, other times it won’t go past a 5.

There isn’t any other reason for it to be doing this, other than the apostrophe in the title (since nothing matches with the permalink which doesn’t have the apostrophe in it.)

I know apostrophes somehow goof up Woo Commerce sometimes, but wondered if it is doing something weird to your plug in as well?

I will attach several screen shots here with notes on them. https://imgur.com/a/1IULwqC

Basically, all the listings have the same text/same info. They are all T-Shirt products. The only thing that changes in the listings is the title, (which is the song title.)

Every title that has an apostrophe in it, scores low….except for one title, which scores as high as my regular titles! Most of the titles score in the 54 – 63 range, except for the ones with apostrophes.

I will provide website log in details in the sensitive area.

Let me know if you need anything else.

    Thanks.

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math for help with Apostrophes not being handled consistently on your website.

I tested titles with apostrophes on my setup and they were working. Screenshot:

Assuming you are using the latest version of all the plugins and the themes (please update if not yet), there may be a conflict with one of the plugins or the theme you are using.

To determine that, please follow this troubleshooting guide:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/check-plugin-conflicts/

Here is a video you can follow as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FcIWRhcUP2c

Only the site admin would know and your users won’t be affected by this troubleshooting.

If the issue persists, please update the credentials in the sensitive data area which seem to have expired so we can investigate further.

    Looking forward to helping you.

Hello – Thanks for the reply.

The credentials are fine and working. I had set you up as a customer but have changed it to an admin account. The same user name and password will give you access to the admin area now.

This isn’t another plug in issue, as we have over a hundred products that work fine. The ones that don’t work, all have the apostrophes in the titles, as I stated above.

    Thanks.

    Hello,

We are able to replicate the issue on your website.

We would like to debug this further. Can you please share your FTP login in the sensitive data section as well?

    Looking forward to helping you.

    Hello,

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

    Hello,

We apologize for the delay in response.

We would like to investigate the issue further but it seems the WP dashboard is throwing a 502 error as you can see in the screenshot I shared in the sensitive data section.

I tried coming back after 5 minutes but the issue with 5xx error persists.

    Can you please verify?

Looking forward to helping you with this one.

    Hi Jeremy –

Are you talking about trying to reach http://www.wickedcrayon.com/wp-admin?

If so, it comes up fine for us!

I logged in with your credentials and it opened fine.

I went ahead and cleared the site cache so try again?

    Thanks.

    Hello,

You’re getting different score for almost similar product/titles is because of the format/type of Apostrophes.

The product with a low score have curly Apostrophes and the product with a high score have straight Apostrophes.

Replacing the curly Apostrophes with the straight one resolves this issue. Please refer to the screencast attached in the sensitive data section.

Hope that helps, and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.

    Thank you.

Yep. That worked! I figured it had something to do with those apostrophes!

    Thanks.

    Hello,

We are super happy that your issue has been addressed.

If you have another question in the future, please feel free to create a new forum topic, and it will be our pleasure to assist you again.

    Thank you.
