    Hi.

I do not get the API key file in my browser when I click “check key” under “API Key Location” It gives me 404 not found error.

Reaching out to your online support I performed the following, but the issue persisted:

    Verify the File Name
Upload the File Correctly thru File Manager
    Clear cache
    Check robots.txt

Your assistance will be highly appreciated.

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with the API key location check resulting in a 404 error. It seems that the API key was not automatically created when you enabled the Instant Indexing module in Rank Math.

To resolve this, you will need to create a text file manually. Here’s how to do it:

    1. Create a Text File

    • Name the file [your_api_key].txt, ensuring that the file name includes your actual API key.
    • Add the API key to the text file, making sure it is the only content in the file (no extra spaces or characters).

    API key for IndexNow

    2. Upload the Text File

    • Upload this text file to the root directory of your website using an FTP client like FileZilla or through cPanel’s File Manager.

After uploading the file, please try checking the API key location again. If you continue to experience issues, please reply to this ticket, and a human agent from the Rank Math Support team will assist you further.

Thank you for raising this concern, and we hope to resolve it quickly for you!

I had already performed that suggestion before I created this ticket, and the issue was not resolved.
Many thanks in advance for your support.

    Hello,

If the file is already created in our website’s root directory and still returns a 404 error when opening it, then we recommend getting in touch with your web host.

You may ask them that the file should be publicly accessible when opening the .txt URL to fix this issue.

    Looking forward to helping you.

    Hi Reinelle,

    Thank you for your response.
I followed your advice and the issue is now resolved.

    Regards,
