Analytics Broken

I am thinking about upgrading my account so I’ve been researching and checking out settings before moving forward. When I was looking through the settings, I noticed that Analytics has been broken for over a month. I’m not sure how I missed that but I did.

I’ve spent the past few hours searching and trying all sorts of solutions but can’t figure it out. Google Analytics and Bing Clarify are both working fine. I enabled the log file but when I opened it, I have no idea what I’m looking at. The log is rather large.

Things I’ve tried (but probably not in order):
    * Verify website exists on Rank Math account
    * Disable and Enable Analytics in Rank Math plugin
    * Manually run the analytics cron job
    * Verify Google Tag fires when the page loads
    * Verify the required code exists in the head section of the page
    * Google Analytics live view works
    * Rebuild Index for Analytics
    * Other things as well

I’ve read a lot of forums and posts on how to fix the issue. So far, nothing has worked. Any suggestions? Thanks!

  • Hello,

I apologize for the issue you are facing with the Analytics in Rank Math. It seems like you have already tried several troubleshooting steps to resolve the problem without success.

Since you have enabled the log file but find it challenging to interpret, I recommend creating an Analytics debug log file as discussed in our documentation. This log file will record details of the Analytics issues that our support experts can further examine.

To create the Analytics debug log file, you can follow these steps:

    1. Add the following filter to your WordPress theme’s rank-math.php file:

      add_filter( 'rank_math/analytics/log_response', '__return_true' );
    2. Run the pending Scheduled Action named rank_math/analytics/data_fetch by navigating to WordPress Dashboard → Tools → Scheduled Actions → Pending.

    3. Once a few actions have run, open a support ticket here and share the Analytics debug log file located under /wp-content/uploads/rank-math in your website directory. You can download the file and share it with us using a file-sharing tool like WeTransfer.

By providing us with the Analytics debug log file, our support team will be able to analyze the issue more effectively and assist you in resolving the Analytics problem you are experiencing.

If you encounter any difficulties or need further assistance, please feel free to reach out by replying to this ticket. Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

Looking forward to helping you resolve this issue promptly.

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting us and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

From the Analytics log, it looks like Rank Math is fetching the data from your Google account. In this case, could you please share some more details about the issue you’re facing with Rank Math Analytics?

In case, you’re not able to see the data on your Analytics dashboard, please try to follow the steps from this guide and see if that works for you: https://rankmath.com/kb/delete-old-analytics-data/

If the issue persists, then we might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WordPress & FTP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.

Please do take a complete backup of your website before sharing the information with us.

    Sensitive Data Section

It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/temporary-login-without-password/

You can use the above plugin in conjunction with the WP Security Audit Log to monitor what changes our staff might make on your website (if any):

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-security-audit-log/

Let us know how it goes. Looking forward to helping you.

    Thank you.

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

I added credentials for WP and FTP access. I tried the directions on the doc and I am still not getting all of the data. The data flow stopped around a month and a half ago. It just dropped to zero. Analytics were working fine up to this point. I have no idea what changed as data still flows in Google Analytics, Bing Clarify, and more.

FYI, I took Google Site Kit and Google Tag Manager out of the equation and RankMath now sees data from a couple of days ago. There is still a couple of months of data missing but I’m okay with that if Analytics starts working again. I’ll need to wait a while for more data to flow through.

My guess is Google Tag Manager has something to do with this. The documentation on RankMath’s website appears to be out of date in configuring Google Tag Manager. I wonder if it would be worth it to look into that.

I’m not sure about Google Site Kit.

    Hello,

It seems you forgot to include a login URL with the credentials you shared in the sensitive data section.

    Let’s debug this issue further:

    A.

    Pre-check List
#1. You should not be using any other Google Analytics plugin.
#2. Update to the latest versions of Rank Math Free
#3. Ensure that you are logged in to your account:
    https://rankmath.com/my-account/

#4. Disconnect and reconnect your account from WordPress dashboard > Rank Math > Dashboard > Help

    B

#1. Please delete RankMath’s app from here:
    https://myaccount.google.com/permissions

#2. Re-create tables by clicking WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math > Status & Tools > Database Tools and click the Re-create database Table button.

#3. Reconnect the account inside Rank Math by clicking here and ensure that you approve all the permission notices that show up:

    https://rankmath.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Allow-Permissions-to-Google-App-1.jpg

#4. Let the process complete, which might take around 30 minutes.
#5. Now head over to WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math > Status & Tools > Database Tools and click the Rebuild Index for Analytics button.

#6. Please check if the data shows up here:
    https://yourwebsite.com/wp-admin/admin.php?page=rank-math-analytics#/

Let us know how it goes.

    Hello,

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

FYI, I updated sensitive data to include the login URL.

I tried the steps listed above but nothing changed. Also, RankMath Analytics did not pick up yesterday’s traffic.

If I delete the plugin and try a fresh install, will I lose all of my SEO data (focus keywords, schema, redirects, and so on…)? I’ll wait for your investigation since you should be able to log in now but I figured I’d ask.

    Hello,

We have investigated this on your end and there is still no data on your account. To investigate this further, please share a screenshot of your Google Analytics and Search Console data, i.e. the same properties that are connected to Rank Math.

We are looking forward to hearing back from you.

I added screenshots of Google Analytics and Search Console to the shared Google Drive here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1rXPUmUlke78vz6sJKaiLYgLQ9hyXF4cJ?usp=drive_link

I also added a screenshot of something I found under Tools _> Rank Math Debug in WordPress. There are some errors but I don’t know what to look for in the log file.

Finally, I uploaded the latest log file. All of this is located in the shared Google Drive folder.

    Hello,

    1. Please take another look again, it looks like the refetch is now displaying correctly – here’s a screenshot:

    2. Also, can you confirm where you downloaded the Rank Math Debug plugin from? It’s not a public plugin and I didn’t upload it

    3. Lastly, the new log file is not showing anything concerning. Perhaps you could check the updated analytics and let us know if anything is missing.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation. We are looking forward to hearing back from you.

    1. Yes, that is looking promising. Any idea why there is a gap of data missing? I’m okay with it but I’d like to know.

    2. The option came when I installed the WP Crontrol plugin which was suggested in one of your KB’s. When I disable the plugin, the option goes away. Did I install the wrong plugin?

    3. That’s great!

I’m not entirely sure what caused the issue but I’m assuming it has something to do with Google Site Kit and Google Tag Manager. I’ll go over the data and see how the numbers line up. Thanks for your help.

    Hello,

    1. Are you referring to this gap?

We’re not sure why that is, but judging from the fact that there are data before and after that date, it could mean the issue is from Google’s end, not Rank Math’s.

    2. I’m referring to this plugin:

Thank you for choosing Rank Math

    1. Okay, that sounds plausible.
    2. No, I did not install that plugin. I see two logins under username RankMath, one from today and another from two days ago. I know the first is you but I wonder if a different tech logged in two days ago and installed it.
