Analytics and Sitemap

    Rank Math free

Since I’ve installed RankMath things have been going wrong. I get messages saying I have the HTTP rather than Https protocol. I get messages saying I don’t have a sitemap submitted. Google Analytics doesn’t appear to be connected anymore. If I wasn’t worried about my redirects, I would delete the plugin altogether.
Can you please make sure my site is not being impeded by Rank Math and ensure there are up to day sitemaps submitted, and that Google Analytics is connected.

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

Firstly, I have checked your /sitemap_index.xml file and it is working fine. Also, the HTTP version of your site is successfully redirecting to the HTTPS version, so that is also not a concern here.

However, I have checked your robots.txt file and it does not contain a link to your sitemap.

Below-mentioned screenshot describes what your robots.txt file should look like:

    User-agent: *
    Disallow: /wp-admin/
    Allow: /wp-admin/admin-ajax.php

    Sitemap: https://tripanthropologist.com/sitemap_index.xml

Here is a guide on how you can edit your robots.txt file:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/how-to-edit-robots-txt-with-rank-math/

Once done, please remove all the submitted sitemaps and resubmit your main sitemap – sitemap_index.xml and give Google some time to recrawl your website. Google will use that to get your other sitemaps.

    I hope this helps.

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

Hi, that was very helpful but a bit difficult! So thank you. I have now tried to delete my robots.txt file and upload a new one but I can’t tell if it’s now working. Would you please check and see if I have implemented your suggestions? I am also confused about Google analytics, it doesn’t seem to be tracking and I don’t know if it’s a clash with rankmath?

    Hello,

    1. If you check your domain in the https static checker, all 4 variations of your domain is forwarded to an https version which is correct:

    test

    2. As for your robots.txt file, could you please confirm what you meant by “upload”? Did you create a physical robots.txt file and uploaded it into your website directory? Rank Math has a feature to virtually generate robots.txt files and you can edit the file under the Rank Math settings. If you have a physical robots.txt file in your website directory, please delete it and follow the robost.txt configuration, my colleague provided in the previous reply.

    3. As for the sitemap, please follow the steps below:

3.1. Flush the Sitemap cache by following this video screencast:
    https://i.rankmath.com/xXXhDt

3.2. Exclude the Sitemap files of the Rank Math plugin in your caching plugin. The cache could be via a plugin or from the server:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/exclude-sitemaps-from-caching/

3.3. Remove all your sitemaps from your GSC and resubmit only the primary sitemap (sitemap_index.xml).

3.4. If the issue still persists, please add this filter in your active theme’s functions.php file:

    add_filter( 'rank_math/sitemap/enable_caching', '__return_false');

Please follow this guide to implement the filter code I just shared: https://rankmath.com/kb/wordpress-hooks-actions-filters/

After that, please follow step 3.3 again.

    4. Lastly, for your Analytics issue, please reconnect the Analytics account again, to regenerate a new auth token from Google, by going to WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math > General Settings > Analytics and configure the Analytics settings:
    reconnect

Ensure all permissions are accepted and all checkboxes are ticked: https://rankmath.com/kb/connect-your-google-account/

After that, please follow this guide: https://rankmath.com/kb/delete-old-analytics-data/

This may take a couple of minutes to fetch the data from Google.

If the issue persists, please do let us know and we will further troubleshoot this for you.
