Advice about changing the permalinks in my website and is there any Seo risk ?? - Support

Hello Rank Math Team,

My name is zoheir and I’m the owner of gamesgottalent.com please i have noticed that the format of my blog post is :
domainname.com/postname when i compared with other concurrent games website i’ve found domainname.com/game(s)/postname here is an example :

So i’m thinking to change the permalink format to make gamesgottalent.com/game/postname but i need to know if i do it, it will make any Seo problems on my website or no ?? And what’s the solution for this kind of problem ?
And also i want to change to url of gameplay page take the same example : https://www.gamesgottalent.com/crazy-truck-parking/ when i click to play button the new url is : https://www.gamesgottalent.com/fullscreen-game/?game_id=7073 i want to change it to be like this https://www.gamesgottalent.com/play/?game_id=7073 (replacing fullscreen-game with play)

i have read the guide of changing permalinks. https://www.wpexplorer.com/change-permalinks-wordpress/

But i need to tell you that my website is established since october 2017 and the traffic i have is very low about 5 to 10
visitors per day which is nothing. Before installing Rankmath i used Yoast premium and one day i have changed permalink
from settings —> permalink (see the attachment) i have checked custom postname and i have made after domain name /game/%postname%/
like my concurrent and saved changes after that Yoast shows me a warning that “you shouldn’t change permalink on a live website” the permalink
has changed but when i tried to access a categories of my website i have found 404 page not found which is strange so i really didn’t understand what happen?

And i have returned the permalink into the first configuration. It was just non successful try!!

I want just to know from you if i “temporarily disable my wordPress website for few hours” and i make the permalink change
it’s gonna work correctly without any trouble or no because yoast said “you shouldn’t change permalink on a live website” ? I need a clear answer please about this question ??

Last question if i change the permalink to be domainname.com/game/postname it’s better that domainname.com/postname for my
website niche ?? i need your opinion please ?

And if it is possible to change the permalink it will create a problem for indexation in search engines and in google seach console, bing webmaster tools, External Backlinks, Internal links etc… Or no ????

And also i want to tell you that i have a page which name is “Fullscreen Game” that i want to change to be “Play” take a look the example : https://www.gamesgottalent.com/crazy-truck-parking/ when i click to play button the new url is : https://www.gamesgottalent.com/fullscreen-game/?game_id=7073 i want to change it to be like this https://www.gamesgottalent.com/play/?game_id=7073 (replacing fullscreen-game with play) How to do it please ???

I want to know if i change them i will have seo problems on my website or no ?? And if there any solution to change these urls without having any seo problems please ???

Usually is not recommended to change permalinks on live websites since search engines (like Google) have already indexed the website with the previous structure so it could case rank drops.

You can do it but you will need to create redirections if you have any broken URL (like you had the previous time you changed your permalinks).

Luckily you can do it easily in Rank Math using the 404 Monitor and the Redirections Dashboard.

Last question if i change the permalink to be domainname.com/game/postname it’s better that domainname.com/postname for my
website niche ?? i need your opinion please ?

I can’t give you a yes or no answer since I have not studied your niche but if all your competence is following that structure and it is working for them, it might work for you also.

And if it is possible to change the permalink it will create a problem for indexation in search engines and in google seach console, bing webmaster tools, External Backlinks, Internal links etc… Or no ????

It could create temporary rank drops, but if you solve every 404 error in the Rank Math 404 Monitor, you should get your ranks back soon, once Google crawls your new website structure.

You can’t do redirections with ‘?’ in the URL in Rank Math, at least not yet (we are working on it) so to achieve it you should use some redirections plugin with that feature like https://wordpress.org/plugins/redirection/
