Activating RankMath Free causes link icon in Gutenberg editor to disappear.

    Rank Math free

    Just reporting what seems to be a bug. When RankMath (not pro) is activated, and you use the block editor to add a link to text, the link icon, which normally appears along with other options when you select text, is not visible. The other icons on the text toolbar are visible.

    This is not urgent, as you can still click in the area and set a link.

    I noticed you have added the class “rank-math-link-control” to the button that contains the svg link icon, so it might have something to do with that.

    If you set width:40px on the svg with dev tools, the icon appears as would be normal.

  • Hello,

    Thank you for getting in touch and we are sorry to hear about the issue you are facing.

    Tried reproducing your issue on my local setup and it seems to be working just fine as you can see in my video screencast below:

    https://i.rankmath.com/v/5e1nFq

    Can you please share a screenshot from your end?

    Please ensure that you are using the latest version of Rank Math plugin. If not yet, please do update them. You may refer to our changelog page here: https://rankmath.com/changelog/

    If that doesn’t help, please check if there are other plugins or your currently active theme that may be conflicting with Rank Math and the block editor. To determine that, please follow this guide: https://rankmath.com/kb/check-plugin-conflicts/

    Only the site admin would know and your users won’t be affected by this troubleshooting.

    Looking forward to hearing back from you.

    The problem appears if both Rank Math free and Kadence Blocks Pro are active. Here’s a short video to illustrate this:

    Hello,

    To get around this issue you can add this custom CSS to the backend of WordPress:

    .rank-math-link-control {
        color: #1e1e1e !important;
    }

    This code cannot be added to the theme CSS files as those only run on the front end. You would need to implement this with a similar solution to this: https://wordpress.stackexchange.com/questions/44753/wordpress-admin-stylesheet

    Please note that this is only a CSS issue, and the link control is still clickable if you put the mouse in the space where it should appear.

    Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any other questions.

    That css doesn’t work when I put it in a snippet using the snippet plugin, with the box “run in admin” or “run everywhere” checked. Nor does it work if I insert the css inline with the browser’s devtools.

    The icon being invisible doesn’t bother me, as I know I can still use the functionally. I was just reporting it as a curtesy more or less.

    But there is a related problem that is a show stopper. I should have mentioned it earlier. When the icon is hidden and you invoke the link edit box anyway, the box is offset to the left and goes partially off the screen or under the left panel if there is one. This makes it near impossible or at least very difficult to enter a link. This happens only when the link icon is hidden.

    Hello,

    We deeply apologize for the delay in response.

    We have shared this ticket with our developer to check the issue further. We should get back to you shortly with an advice.

    WE appreciate your time and patience with this one.

    Hello,

    Thank you so much for your patience.

    We have heard back from our developer. Although we have reproduced the issue, it seems that it is also happening to other SEO plugins like Yoast so there is probably something wrong with the Kadence PRO plugin that is causing the issue. A little bit of tweaking from their end may resolve it. This will not just resolve the issue with Rank Math but other plugins too.

    Kindly report this to the Kadence team as well.

    Let us know how that goes. If you still have any questions, just reply and we will be more than happy to clarify any doubts you might have.

    Thank you.
