Activate Strip Category Base after a long time ?

    Hi,

    I turned of the “Strip Category Base” from the beginning on my website when I created it. My website now has about 200 visitors per day.

    I would like to turn on the “Strip Category Base”, as now that my website as evolved, it makes more sense to activate it.

    If I activate it now, can it have a bad effect on SEO ? Will this create a lot of 404 redirection ?

    If so, I suppose I shouldn’t turn it on now, am I right ?

    Hello,

    Thank you for contacting Rank Math and bringing your concern to our attention.

    Once you’ve enabled that option to strip the category base, Rank Math will automatically redirect old category URLs (with “/category/” slugs) to URLs without category slugs. However, let us know if that’s not happening on your site so we can check as well.

    This setting helps reduce the length of the permalinks in the post categories, and it’s well-known that shorter URLs usually are better for SEO and user experience.

    You just need to be careful so you don’t create another page with the same permalink as your categories.
