Hello, opening a new ticket because last one was closed.

I can confirm that the information provided by Reinelle that was suggested by RankMath have already been trialled earlier within the ticket.

I have also tested this once more and it seems that any request for indexing automatically is classed as spam and is becoming rate-limited, the site has also had the auto submission disabled so there would not be any automatic requests made to the IndexNow API.

    My previous ticket message:

Can you please check why my site is continuously being affected by a 429 request when the instant indexing is attempting to be used as this has only been used a handful of times.

I am using WordPress.org & free version of RankMath currently.

    My website: https://klfootprints.com

    Looking forward to your response.

Thank you for your time and attention.

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with the 429 request error when using Instant Indexing. The HTTP 429 response code indicates that your IP address has sent too many requests to the IndexNow API within a short period. This can happen even if you have disabled auto-submission, especially if other websites on the same server are also making requests to the API.

Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

    1. Stop Submitting URLs Temporarily: Since you are experiencing rate limiting, it’s advisable to stop submitting URLs to the IndexNow API for a while.

    2. Deselect Auto-Submission: Ensure that the auto-submission feature is indeed disabled. You can do this by navigating to Rank Math SEO → Instant Indexing → Settings in your WordPress dashboard and ensuring that all post types are unchecked in the Auto-Submit Post Types setting.
Deselect auto-submission in the Instant Indexing Settings

    3. Change Your API Key: If the problem persists, consider changing your API key. You can do this in the same settings area and then save your changes. After changing the key, clear your website cache and wait for a few hours before trying to submit URLs again.
Change your API key and Save

    4. Contact Your Hosting Provider: If you are on shared hosting, it’s possible that other sites on the same server are consuming the quota assigned to your shared IP address. In this case, contacting your hosting provider may help resolve the issue.

If you continue to experience difficulties after trying these steps, please reply to this ticket, and a human agent from our support team will assist you further. Thank you for your patience and understanding!

    Hello,

The 429 error indicates that too many websites sharing the same IP address are attempting to access the API.

You can confirm or ask if your site is hosted on a shared IP hosting.

If you are on shared hosting, other sites on the same server might be using up the quota assigned to your shared IP address. This is a common issue that can lead to receiving 429 errors.

    Looking forward to helping you.

    Hi Reinelle,

My web host has confirmed the following: hosting does use shared IP addresses.

It would not be possible to use a dedicated IP address a specific hosting package on our shared Servers

    Hello,

The 429 response is a common issue with websites hosted on shared hosting.

You can also confirm that by using the official plugin of Bing for IndexNow: https://wordpress.org/plugins/indexnow/

In this case, there is nothing we can do from our end to fix this.

    Looking forward to helping you.

    Hi Reinelle,

Please let me know if my understanding is correct: I have to manually submit pages/posts I publish on my self hosted website to Google for indexing because the pages/posts won’t automatically be able to be submitted to Google like they are with Bing?

    Hello,

The IndexNow API doesn’t work for Google. The Rank Math’s Instant Indexing feature allows you to submit your URLs to IndexNow-enabled search engines such as Bing, Yandex, Naver, and Seznam,

For Google, you will have to wait for Google to discover the URLs from the sitemap, internal linking, backlinks, or manual submission.

Please check the Sitemap section of your GSC account and let us know if you see any errors.

    Looking forward to helping you.

Ok thanks for the clarification. I have checked Sitemap section of my GSC account & don’t see any errors at this time.

    Hello,

You should also check your Google Search Console > Indexing > Pages section to determine any issues reported on your URLs that may have prevented your site from being indexed:
