404 page optimization

We apologize for the issue you are facing with the 404 pages on your site. It sounds like you’ve followed the installation and configuration steps for the Rank Math plugin, but you’re still seeing a significant number of 404 errors in Google Search Console.

To address this, we recommend checking the following:

1. Ensure the 404 Monitor is Enabled: Make sure that the 404 Monitor module is enabled in Rank Math. You can do this by navigating to Rank Math SEO → Dashboard and enabling the 404 Monitor module if it’s not already activated.
   

2. Check the Examples Section: After enabling the monitor, you can view the detected 404 errors by going to Rank Math SEO → 404 Monitor. Scroll down to the Examples section to see a list of URLs that returned a 404 error. This will help you identify which pages are causing issues.
   

3. Redirecting 404 Errors: If you find URLs that should be redirected, you can use the redirect manager in Rank Math to set up 301 redirects for those pages. This will help improve user experience and SEO by directing visitors to the correct content.
   

4. Review Google Search Console: Continue monitoring Google Search Console for updates on the 404 errors. It may take some time for changes to reflect in Search Console after implementing redirects or fixes.

This usually happens when you’re using a custom 404 page on your site.

To fix this, please update this Rank Math file via FTP – /plugins/seo-by-rank-math/includes/modules/404-monitor/class-monitor.php

Then in line 53, change this:
$this->action( $this->get_hook(), 'capture_404' );

To this:
$this->action('template_redirect', 'capture_404' );

Once done, check again the 404 Monitor and see if it’s already logging them.

Please note that you may need to modify the code above each time you update Rank Math to detect your 404s.
