I’ve followed all the steps, but the 404 errors still increasing. Anyway, thanks for your support.
Hello,
As you’ve deleted the posts, since they were already indexed, it is normal to see 404 logs for them.
Since we only report the 404s. We do not have information on how or why they are generated. However, to get a better insight on the 404 logs, you can enable the advanced monitor from your WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math > General Settings > 404 Monitor:
https://rankmath.com/kb/monitor-404-errors/#advanced-404-monitor
That will give you more information like referrer and user-agent.
You can follow the guide provided by my colleague to fix the 404 errors by redirecting them to relevant pages.
More importantly, I suggest you clear your website’s cache and remove all the sitemaps from your Google Search Console account, and then submit only the main sitemap (your-domain.com/sitemap_index.xml
) (please ensure to replace “your-domain.com” with your actual domain).
This would provide Google with an updated sitemap and the affected posts would eventually start getting de-indexed. Please note that this process can take anywhere between few days to weeks or even months, since the pages are no longer accessible, Google would take time to go through them.
Hope this helps.
Thank you.
Already working on these things. It’s been a month and Google is yet to remove them from the indexed posts. It seems like they are really taking months to fix this.
Thanks for the reply. It helps a lot.
