404 and redirections

    Hi
I have a lot of 404 errors and would like for them to be deleted to redirected. I currently have 26 redirections I have setup but am finding it really difficult to add anymore. Everytime I click on redirect under a 404 error it takes me to the redirections page but doesn’t add it. I have clicked add new on the redirections page, put in 404 error URL, clicked 410 redirection, save but then doesn’t add it to the redirections page. Can you please help me fix this so I can add redirections.

Alternatively if the page isn’t found, can they are just redirected to the homepage? Do I change this in settings and does it work?
    Thankyou

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with adding redirections and managing 404 errors. Thank you for raising this concern.

To address your first issue, it seems like there might be a problem with how the redirections are being saved. We recommend checking if the Redirections module is enabled under WordPress Dashboard → Rank Math SEO → Dashboard → Modules. If it is enabled and you are still facing issues, please reply to this ticket, and a human agent from the Rank Math Support team will assist you further.

Regarding your alternative question about redirecting 404 errors to the homepage, you can set up a redirection for each 404 error URL to point to your homepage. To do this, you would enter the 404 error URL as the Source URL and your homepage URL as the Destination URL when creating a new redirection. This can be done in the Rank Math SEO → Redirections section.

If you need more detailed guidance on setting up redirections, you can refer to our article on How to Set Up Redirections.

Please let us know if you have any further questions or need additional assistance!

    Hello,

Thank you for your query and we are so sorry about the trouble this must have caused.

Please head over to your WordPress Dashboard → Rank Math → Status & Tools → Database Tools and click on the “Re-create Tables” button.

After that, try adding the redirections again.

If you wish to redirect all 404 pages to your homepage, you can set that by default in Rank Math → General Settings → Redirections and configure the “Fallback Behavior” option. Here’s a screenshot for your reference:

    Hi Jeremy
Thankyou for your help. I keep getting a 404 error that has a URI of https://shorehouseliving.com.au so it is https://shorehouseliving.com.au/https:/shorehouseliving.com.au which is incorrect. How do I fix this?

    Thankyou
    Amy

    Hello,

If you see your homepage URL in the 404 Monitor, it means that some bots are trying to access the URL just like you have shared: https://yourdomain.com/yourdomain.com

This is because all of the 404 errors are relative to the homepage, so you can safely ignore those and go about your day.

If the error was on your homepage, you would see only a forward slash in the log /

    Hope that helps.

    Thankyou
Are the 404 errors from customers trying to access those pages or google?

    Hello,

You can get further insight into them by enabling the advanced monitor at WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math > General Settings > 404 Monitor:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/monitor-404-errors/#advanced-404-monitor

That will give you more information like referrer and user-agent. You can use that information to track down the source or find out if it is just bots generating those errors.

    Looking forward to helping you.
