403 Error on attempt to create a Redirect

Suddenly on my site I’m getting a 403 error when I click ‘Redirect’ on an entry in the 404 Monitor. I initially thought that it may be a cache problem(I use WP Rocket). So, I cleared WP Rocket’s cache, and reloaded the site, but the issue was still there.

Then I deactivated WP Rocket. I could then click to create a redirect – once. If I then try to create a 2nd redirect, that generates a 403. I can reproduce this. I can reactivate WP Rocket, then deactivate, and I’m able to create only one redirect.

Please let me know what information you need, and I’ll send it along. I can create a temp login for you if needed.

    The site is –

  • OK…I’ve been doing more testing, and now it seems that the ability to create one redirect after deactivating WP Rocket was not as repeatable as I thought. Now I can’t create a redirect from the 404 Monitor at all.

I can still create redirects on the Manage Redirections page, so it’s just a minor inconvenience at this point.

    Hi there,

We might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.
    Sensitive Data Section

It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/temporary-login-without-password/

You can use the above plugin in conjunction with the WP Security Audit Log to monitor what changes our staff might make on your website (if any):

We really look forward to helping you.

    Hello,

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

    Hi,

I am getting this when trying to access the link:

    Did you delete the login?

    Hello,

    Thank you.

Not a clue. It works for me.

    Hi there,

    Thanks for the follow up.

I am also unable to access the login page. Is it possible that you have some country restrictions or some sort of firewall for your website login page?

Hope to hear back soon. Thank you.

Ahh…I’m using iThemes Security’s ‘Hide Backend’ feature, which alters the default WordPress login URL. I’ve disabled it. See if it works now.

    Hi there,

    Thanks for the follow up.

This issue is stemming from caching on Lightspeed that is installed on your server. It looks like this is what is blocking access to these resources on your site.
Please get in touch with your host to get some help on how to bypass this limitation.

I hope this info helps. Thank you.

Not so sure about that. Several other sites that I have on that very same server with identical setups do not get the 404 error. Still, I’ve reached out to my hosting company for their opinion.

OK, it does not seem to be associated with Litespeed, but it does seem to be associated with iThemes Security plugin. Every site that iThemes is installed along withwith RankMath the 403 occurs, yet those with RankMath but not iThemes Security plugin do not generate the 403.

Strangely, deactivating the iThemes Security plugin does not make the 403 error stop.

    Hi Steven,

    Thanks for the follow up.

Please unblock access to the root folder / within the Ithemes plugin to fix this.

Let us know how this goes. Thank you.

I can’t locate any function in iThemes Security with which to block root access. In any case, I have totally removed iThemes Security plugin, yet I still get the 403 error.

However, I have noticed that if the 404 Monitor entry’s URL is formatted like this –
    http://creativeillusions.biz/2018/05/19
clicking to create a redirect gets the 403.

However, if it doesn’t include the domain, like this –
    wp-admin/css/forms.min.css
it will not get the 403 error and it takes me to the Create Redirect form.
