Hello,
We apologize for the issue you are facing with your sitemap not being indexed. It sounds frustrating, especially after checking everything thoroughly.
The error message you received indicates that there might be a noindex
directive in the HTTP header of your sitemap. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot this issue:
-
Check HTTP Headers: Use a tool like httpstatus.io to check the HTTP headers of your sitemap. Ensure that there is no X-Robots-Tag
header set to noindex
.
-
Validate Your Sitemap: You can validate your sitemap using the Validate XML Sitemap tool to ensure it is correctly configured.

-
Check Robots.txt: Ensure that your robots.txt
file does not contain any rules that might block Google from accessing your sitemap. You can check this in Rank Math under Rank Math SEO → General Settings → robots.txt.
-
Sitemap Location: Make sure your sitemap is located in the root folder of your WordPress installation, typically at `https://rankmath.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/robts.txt-file-3.jpg.
-
Resubmit Your Sitemap: After making any necessary changes, resubmit your sitemap in Google Search Console as described in our tutorial here.

If you’ve gone through these steps and are still experiencing issues, please reply to this ticket with any additional details or specific errors you encounter, and a human agent from our support team will assist you further.

Everything is ok, still the sitemap is not indexed!
Hello,
Thank you for contacting Rank Math support and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.
The sitemap you shared is not generated by Rank Math.
However, note that if you’re submitting a sitemap URL in URL Inspection Tool, then you shouldn’t be worried about the “No: “noindex” detected in the HTTP header “X-Robots-Tag” error, as it’s completely fine and absolutely normal to have noindex
tag on your sitemap URLs. Because, by default, sitemap URLs are set to noindex as it is not meant to be indexed and appear in the search results.
The sitemap should only be submitted in the sitemaps sections in the Search Console.
The reason is that we don’t want Google to index the sitemap itself, we only want them to index the pages and posts that are listed on the sitemap. The sitemap is just a way to tell Google what pages and posts you have on your website, not a page that you want to show up in search results.
Let us know how it goes. Looking forward to helping you.
Thank you.
