Recently I have enabled paginated pages to index.

I am seeing some extra code in that url.
    paginated pages

Page without extra code is loading and has no indexing issues.

Why Google is picking the extra code urls and how that urls are generated by my website.

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with the extra code in your paginated page URLs. The extra code you see, such as ?fbclid=PAAaZ0PL0_eVAQXxLCGFzXXmZkJfDkjaoQ-tKC7-WW2lEPih9oKYYNWP3QH9s, is typically a tracking parameter added by Facebook when links are shared on their platform. This parameter helps Facebook track clicks on links shared through their service.

When users click on a link that has been shared on Facebook, the platform appends this fbclid parameter to the URL to track the source of traffic. This can lead to multiple versions of the same URL being indexed by Google, which may cause confusion in search results.

To prevent Google from indexing these URLs with tracking parameters, you can implement canonical tags on your pages. A canonical tag tells search engines which version of a URL is the preferred one to index. You can set the canonical URL to the clean version of your paginated pages without any tracking parameters.

If you need assistance with setting up canonical tags or if there are other technical issues on your site, please reply to this ticket with your site URL, and a human agent from our support team will be happy to assist you further.

Is there any documentation to set canonical tags for all page navigation urls.

    Hello,

We can see the ?fbclid query parameter on your URL. The FBCLID stands for Facebook Click Identifier. It’s added to URLs when someone clicks a link on Facebook.

For more details on this query parameter, you can check this article: https://correctdigital.com/fbclid/

Regarding the canonical URL, Rank Math automatically includes the self-referencing canonical URL to your pages when they are set to index. However, if you want, you can also set a custom canonical from Rank Math SEO Meta box Advanced tab: https://rankmath.com/kb/how-to-change-canonical-url/

Hope that helps and please don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any other questions.

    Thank you.
