Hello,
We apologize for the issue you are facing with your sitemap not being fetched. Since you’ve already followed the steps mentioned in the guide, let’s ensure everything is set up correctly. Here are a few additional troubleshooting steps you can try:
-
Validate Your Sitemap: Use the Validate XML Sitemap tool to check if your sitemap is correctly configured. If there are any issues, they will be highlighted.
-
Ensure the Sitemap is Located in the Root Folder: Make sure your sitemap is located in the root folder of your WordPress installation. The URL should look like this:
https://yourdomainname.com/sitemap_index.xml
. -
Check Index Settings: Ensure that your posts are set to index. Go to Rank Math SEO → Titles & Meta and make sure the Index checkbox is enabled for your posts.
-
Flush the Cache: If your sitemap appears outdated, navigate to Rank Math SEO → Sitemap Settings, increase the value of Links Per Sitemap by one, and save your settings. Then go to Settings → Permalinks and click Save Changes to apply the current settings.
-
Exclude the Sitemap From Caching: Ensure that your sitemap is not being cached. You can refer to this article on ensuring that your sitemaps are excluded from caching.
If you have tried all these steps and are still experiencing issues, please reply to this ticket with your site URL so that a human agent from our support team can assist you further. Thank you for your patience, and we look forward to resolving this for you!
Hello,
Thank you for your query and we are so sorry about the trouble this must have caused.
Your sitemap seems to be working fine as you can see from the screenshots below:
Please follow the steps below:
1. Flush the Sitemap cache by following this video screencast:
https://i.rankmath.com/pipRDp2. Exclude the Sitemap files of the Rank Math plugin in your caching plugin. The cache could be via a plugin or from the server. For plugins or Cloudflare, please follow this article:
https://rankmath.com/kb/exclude-sitemaps-from-caching/3. Apply the following filter code to your site.
add_filter( 'rank_math/sitemap/enable_caching', '__return_false');
Here’s how you can add filter to your WordPress site:https://rankmath.com/kb/wordpress-hooks-actions-filters/
4. Remove all your sitemaps from your Google Search Console and resubmit only the primary one which is
https://conference-interpretation.asia/sitemap_index.xml
.Let us know how that goes. Looking forward to helping you.
Hi,
Thanks for your solution.
We tested the solution you shared with us, but unfortunately, it is not working for us.
https://conference-interpretation.asia/sitemap_index.xml
Google is still unable to fetch it.We also have translated pages across multiple languages, but those pages are not getting indexed through the sitemap (as language-specific sitemaps are not being generated).
If I submit the pages manually to GSC, they get indexed, but as you know, there are thousands of pages, and submitting each one manually is not feasible.
Please suggest some effective solutions. We’ve been struggling a lot with this website.

Hello,
I checked your sitemap and it seems to be loading just fine on my browser.
I went ahead and check all the variations of your sitemap using https://httpstatus.io/ and we saw two Status codes. Please refer to my screenshot here:
Only one of the 4 variations should show a 200 status code. Three (3) of the sitemaps should show 301.
Please follow the steps in this link:
https://rankmath.com/kb/couldnt-fetch-error-google-search-console/#5-check-for-the-correct-version-of-the-sitemap and redirect to the correct version. Then, please ensure that your sitemap is not heavily cached as well. Please follow the steps below to address it:
1. Flush the Sitemap cache by following this video screencast:
https://i.rankmath.com/pipRDp2. Exclude the Sitemap files of the Rank Math plugin in your caching plugin. The cache could be via a plugin or from the server. For plugins or Cloudflare, please follow this article:
https://rankmath.com/kb/exclude-sitemaps-from-caching/Once done, resubmit the sitemap_index.xml in the Search Console and wait for Google to recrawl the sitemap.
Let us know how that goes. Looking forward to helping you.
Hii,
Thanks, Team, for your solution but unfortunately, this one also does not work for us.
Our dev team followed the same and could not get any breakthrough.
This one is concerning as we have 4 more websites, and for each of them, rank math is working fine, and GSC can fetch it, but the issue is only with this sitemap.WE have launched the multilingual websites & I’m afraid Google will not be able to deduct it as the main sitemap itself cannot be fetched.
Please look into this and help us.
Hello,
Can you please try to remove all the submitted sitemaps again from your Google Search Console and resubmit only
/?sitemap=1
?If the issue persists, please click on the sitemap on your GSC account and check if you’re able to see the sub-sitemaps. If you see the error is coming from any specific sub-sitemap, please click on that share a screenshot of the error so that we can check the issue further for you.
Let us know how it goes. Looking forward to helping you.
Thank you.
Thanks,
But the issue is still the same.
https://imgur.com/a/OUblSgqHello,
Your sitemap is working fine. please note that not all sitemaps are processed by Google. Not necessarily because there is something wrong with the sitemap.
Even a perfect sitemap may not be processed by Google.
Most of the time, it’s still sitting in the queue waiting for processing. Remember, Google is processing millions of sitemap daily, sometimes it takes time to get to yours. But for whatever reason, Google never gets around to some sitemaps. It just doesn’t think it is worth it.
And Search Console sometimes shows ‘Pending’ as ‘couldn’t fetch’ incorrectly. You can check the replies of Google experts for the Couldn’t Fetch(especially for the TLDs except for .com) issues on the following threads:
https://support.google.com/webmasters/thread/29055233/missing-xml-sitemap-data-in-google-search-console-for-tld-domain?hl=en
https://support.google.com/webmasters/thread/31835653/sitemap-couldn-t-fetch-sitemap-couldn-t-be-read-by-google-search-console?hl=enYou can try using a different sitemap plugin like https://wordpress.org/plugins/xml-sitemap-generator-for-google/ to generate the sitemap and see if Google can read them. Please make sure to disable the Sitemap module of our plugin in WP Dashboard > Rank Math > Dashboard.
Let us know how that goes. Looking forward to helping you.
