Hi,
I’ve been trying to get my sitemap to index and I don’t know what else to do. I’m getting a general HTTP error: 404. ?sitemap=1 was able to successfully index, but sitemap_index.xml is not. It registers as valid on xml-sitemaps.com. On httpstatus.io I am getting a noindex for X-Robots. When I test the url on google search console I receive No: ‘noindex’ detected in ‘X-Robots-Tag’ http header.
I’ve allowed indexing everywhere I can think of, so I don’t know what I’m missing. DO you have any suggestions? https://immaculyfe.com/sitemap_index.xml.

Flush Permalinks: Sometimes, simply saving the permalinks can resolve 404 errors. Go to your WordPress dashboard, navigate to Settings → Permalinks, and click Save Changes without making any modifications.

Check Sitemap Accessibility: Since you mentioned that your sitemap is valid on xml-sitemaps.com, ensure that it is accessible without any restrictions. You can use the httpstatus.io tool to check if your sitemap URL returns a 200 status code.

Ensure Posts Are Set to Index: Make sure that your posts are set to index. You can do this by going to Rank Math SEO → Titles & Meta and ensuring that the Index checkbox is enabled in the Robots Meta settings.

Check for Caching Issues: If your sitemap is being cached, it might not reflect recent changes. Ensure that your caching plugin (if you are using one) is configured to exclude the sitemap from caching.

Rename the Sitemap File: As a last resort, you can try renaming your sitemap file in Google Search Console. Go to Indexing → Sitemaps, paste `https://rankmath.com/kb/couldnt-fetch-error-google-search-console/ in the Add a new sitemap section, and click SUBMIT.

In this case, please try to follow the steps below and see if that works for you:
1. Flush the Sitemap cache by following this video screencast:

/sitemap_index.xmlin the Search Console.Regarding the Noindex issue, please note that sitemaps are by default set to Noindex as they are meant to be crawled and not to be displayed on search results pages.
