    Hi,

My site has been running for two years, and we’ve consistently ranked on the first page for most keywords. However, after using Rank Math, I noticed that all permalinks for categories and products now include “product-category” as part of the slug, affecting both products and projects.

What would you recommend to fix this issue?

I really appreciate any help you can provide.

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with your permalinks after using Rank Math. It sounds like the default WooCommerce setting is still active, which adds /product-category/ to your category permalinks.

To resolve this, you can enable the "Remove category base" option in Rank Math. This will remove the /product-category/ from your permalinks, making them cleaner and more user-friendly. Here’s how you can do it:

    1. Go to your WordPress Dashboard.
    2. Navigate to Rank Math > General Settings > Permalinks.
    3. Look for the option labeled Remove Category Base and enable it.
    4. Save your changes.

After doing this, your permalinks should look like yoursitename.com/category-name instead of yoursitename.com/product-category/category-name.

What will be the impact of these settings on search engines?

    Hello,

Multiple URL length studies have shown that shorter URLs have a higher chance of ranking in the SERPs. Short URLs are simple, to the point, and specific enough to drive clicks.

You’ll just need to ensure that the previous URL is redirecting to the correct one after updating the permalinks.

    Looking forward to helping you.
