sitemap_index.xml generating empty sitemaps

    Hi,

    I have a custom Post Type with 2600 posts that I don’t want to index except for a few posts. I have marked those posts that I want to index under Advanced Tab in Rank Math. Those posts are displayed in the sitemap as they should. However, a lot of extra sitemaps are generated in sitemap_index.xml that are empty and lead to 404 pages. Is there a way for it to only generate necessary sitemaps?

    Thank you for contacting Rank Math and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

    Can you please follow these steps?
    1. Flush the Sitemap cache by following this video screencast:
    https://i.rankmath.com/xXXhDt

    2. Exclude the Sitemap files of the Rank Math plugin in your caching plugin. The cache could be via a plugin or from the server.

    That should fix the issue. Please let us know if that does not. We are here to assist.

    Yes, I have done those steps before. (Flush the Sitemap and excluding Sitemap’s in caching plugin.)

    Note that sitemap_index.xml contains unnecessary sitemaps for a custom post type with 2600 posts. So I got 13 blank sitemaps. Check screenshot from previous post. All of those 13 sitemap’s leeds to 404 pages. It’s only 3 posts of those 2600 posts that are marked with “index” in Robots Meta all other are marked with “no index” as default in that post type group settings. Hope it explains better?

    It seems your sitemap is not being generated automatically according to the number of your posts as it should be.

    We might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WordPress logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.
