Rank Math has changed my Categories display order on my pages

    Hi,

    I have recently moved from Yoast over to Rank Math. All was going well until I noticed that the order of categories are no longer displayed on my web pages in hierarchal order.

    So, where a category hierarchy exists of ‘Gaming > VR’, after some testing I discovered the following:
    1. If I add the ‘VR’ category to the post before the ‘Gaming’ category, then the category list on the post page will read “VR>Gaming”.
    2. If I add the ‘Gaming’ category to the post before the ‘VR’ category, then the category list on the post page will read “Gaming>VR”.

    So it looks as though the categories are being displayed in the order they were added to the post in, and not their hierarchial order. This didn’t happen when I was using Yoast.

    I couldn’t see anywhere within the Rank Math plugin that could be changing this, or where I could alter it’s behaviour.

    Can you help please?

    Rank Math does not modify the display order of categories on your posts. The order in which categories appear is typically managed by your theme or custom code on your website. Rank Math focuses on optimizing metadata, schema, and SEO-related aspects but does not alter the visual hierarchy or order of categories.

    We recommend you check your theme settings. Some themes allow you to customize how categories are displayed. Look for relevant settings under your theme options.

    If your theme does not provide such options, you may need to adjust the category display order using custom code. You can use the get_the_category() function in WordPress to sort categories hierarchically before displaying them.

    You can also check that no other plugin is affecting the display order of categories.
