The %categories% variable has to be used only on individual posts. It cannot be used on the category archives. For the category archives, the correct variable for showing the title of the category is %term%.
Please try that one.

Is there a way to show two different categories in this way?
When I use %term% it’s only showing the parent category but not the child category 🙁

There is no way to show the Parent or Child category on a category page’s Meta at the moment.
