Hi, I have a site with several images, sometimes in a post there are more than 200 photos each, when the user opens the image, it generates a new page and the URL is based on the title of the image in the metadata, in this case do I have to put noindex in the Attachments option of rankmath? I’m worried about Google thinking that the photos are duplicate content and I don’t understand if I leave noindex the canonical tag will also tell Google that it’s not duplicate content. What’s the best way to set it up?
In google search console under internal links there are over 19,000 internal cookie policy pages because of the footer on the attachment pages, this uses up google’s crawl budget.
In rank math under title and meta – attachments – Robots Media meta – Do I leave the option “no follow” or “no index” images activated or both? Which should I activate? If I leave “nofollow” disabled, will that prevent diluting page authority for these media attachment pages? Thank you

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with your attachment pages and the concerns regarding duplicate content and crawl budget. Thank you for raising this concern.

In your case, it is advisable to set the No Index option for attachment pages in Rank Math. This will instruct search engines not to index these pages, which helps prevent them from being considered duplicate content. When you set a page to No Index, it does not affect the canonical tag; the canonical tag can still point to the original post or page where the image is used, indicating to Google that the original content should be prioritized.

Regarding the No Follow option, if you enable it, it will prevent search engines from passing link authority from your attachment pages to other pages. If you leave No Follow disabled, it means that any links on those attachment pages could potentially pass authority, which might not be ideal if you want to avoid diluting page authority.

    To summarize:

    • Set No Index for attachment pages to avoid duplicate content issues.
    • You can choose to enable No Follow if you want to prevent passing authority from these pages.

This setup should help manage your crawl budget more effectively and reduce the number of internal links generated by these attachment pages.
