Confirm if issue related to Rankmath or not

    Rank Math free

Hello to the team at RankMath!

    Full disclosure: I am not tech-savvy : )
I submitted my website EnglishGeni.com to google search console a few days back and resubmitted again as RankMath had included my site backend templates in the sitemaps.

My current issue is there is some issue and the homepage cannot be seen in the list of PAGES on the Rankmath generated pages sitemap and GSC is showing me that posts sitemap could not be fetched.
Further GSC said that there was a Meta robots tag set to noindex on the header- which I fail to locate by searching header code, but is disallowing indexing when GSC tried.

However. at my pages, I do see HOMEPAGE as ‘No index’ though it is set to ‘Index’ on the page RankMath options.

Please confirm if this is due to something wrong with the Newspaper Theme I use.
[This is possible since only a few days ago, the NP theme support told me that the theme I got from a fellow-Indian YouTuber Hostinger deal is NOT their valid copy].
    I’m on WordPress btw.

If you can confirm that this is NOT a RankMath but Theme related issue, I will pursue there.

I’d be truly grateful for some clarity. Thanks in advance for your help.

    Best regards,

    Hina M

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with your website’s indexing and sitemap. Based on your description, it seems that there are a few factors to consider:

    1. Noindex Tag: If your homepage is showing as ‘No index’ in the Rank Math options but is set to ‘Index’, this could indicate a conflict either within the Rank Math settings or potentially with your theme. It’s important to ensure that the settings in Rank Math are correctly configured and saved.

    2. Sitemap Issues: The fact that your homepage is not appearing in the sitemap could also be related to how the Newspaper Theme interacts with Rank Math. Themes can sometimes override certain settings, which might lead to unexpected behavior.

    3. Google Search Console (GSC) Errors: The error regarding the posts sitemap not being fetched could be due to the noindex tag or other issues related to how your theme is set up.

To troubleshoot further, we recommend checking the following:

    • Ensure that the homepage settings in Rank Math are correctly configured and saved.
    • Check if there are any custom settings in your Newspaper Theme that might be affecting the SEO settings.
    • Look into the robots.txt file and ensure it does not contain any disallow rules that could prevent indexing.

If after checking these points you still face issues, it may be beneficial to reach out to the Newspaper Theme support for assistance, as they would have more insight into how their theme interacts with plugins like Rank Math.

Thank you for raising this concern, and we hope this helps clarify the situation! If you have further questions or need more assistance, feel free to reply to this ticket.

    Hello,

    Thank you for contacting support.

We can see that the homepage is set to index correctly and Google should see the same, provided that it’s able to crawl the homepage.

If you see this error for the homepage on your GSC it should also show the last crawl date for the page so you can check if the Googlebot is visiting the page recently.

You can also pass the homepage URL through the URL Inspection Tool on GSC and see what Google is seeing for the page.

Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any other questions.

    Hello,

Since we did not hear back from you for 15 days, we are assuming that you found the solution. We are closing this support ticket.

If you still need assistance or any other help, please feel free to open a new support ticket, and we will be more than happy to assist.

    Thank you.
