Strange issue / Bug

    Hello everyone,

we have a very strange RankMath behavior on a customer website.

We have CPTs (job ads) that we used to have until about 3 weeks ago with the plugin PublishPress Future (free version) automatically expire after 3 months and then set to the status “Draft 2”.
If we then republished an expired job ad, the job ad automatically reverted to “Draft” status. We then deactivated all plugins on a 1:1 staging page to narrow down the source of the error. It turned out that it must be RankMath, but we can’t say exactly what.

Now we have completely removed the PublishPress plugin from the LIVE site, including a database cleanup. The caching plugin (WP-Rocket) has no influence on this (we have tested it extensively). However, the error still occurs from the moment we activate RankMath. We then tried to use the new “Lock modified date” function, but that did not solve the problem. Currently we have deactivated (not deleted) RankMath and everything works fine.

What could be the reason for this?

    Best regards

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with Rank Math on your customer’s website. It sounds like a complex situation with the custom post types (CPTs) and the interaction with the Rank Math plugin.

From your description, it seems that the problem may be related to how Rank Math handles the job postings and their statuses. Here are a few things to consider:

    1. Job Posting Schema Settings: Ensure that the settings for the Job Posting Schema in Rank Math are correctly configured, especially regarding the Posting Expiry Date and the Unpublish when Expired options. If these settings are not aligned with your expectations, it could lead to unexpected behavior.

      • You can find more information about these settings here.
    2. Conflict with Other Plugins: Even though you have deactivated other plugins, there might still be some residual effects or conflicts that could be causing this issue. It might be worth checking if there are any specific settings in Rank Math that could be conflicting with how your CPTs are managed.

    3. Caching Issues: Although you mentioned that WP-Rocket does not influence this, sometimes caching can cause unexpected behavior. Make sure to clear all caches after making changes to see if that resolves the issue.

    4. Database Cleanup: Since you mentioned performing a database cleanup after removing PublishPress, ensure that there are no lingering entries or settings that could affect how Rank Math operates.

    5. Lock Modified Date Feature: While using the Lock Modified Date feature is a good approach, it may not directly address the issue of job ads reverting to draft status. This feature primarily affects how modified dates are handled rather than post status.

If none of these suggestions resolve the issue, we recommend replying to this ticket with more details about your setup, and a human agent from the Rank Math Support team will take over and assist you further.

Thank you for bringing this concern to our attention, and we hope to help you resolve it soon!

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting us and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

Could you please confirm if you’re using the Job Posting schema on your posts/pages? We are asking this because it only happens when you use the Job Posting schema on your pages and enable the Unpublish when Expired option: https://rankmath.com/kb/jobposting-schema/#unpublish-when-expired

Without this, Rank Math does not have any option to draft your posts/pages automatically.

    Looking forward to helping you.

    Thank you.

    Hi Rakibuzzaman,
thanks for you message. Looks like that the first point was the problem. The Exiperd Date was set and when we re-publish the vacancy, this date doesnt reload the new added date. We will try it again with the PublishPress Future Plugin and leave the expired date empty in the schema-markup.

    Best regards
