Hi! I have been recently installed the Rank Math Instant Indexing plugin and am unfortunately getting error 404 when I try to get URL status. I had already been using this for a week in which it was working but had some issues with caching so had to restore a back up which meant reinstalling the plug in and now I just cannot seem to get it to work.

This is a bit of a necessity for our site since we do time relevant content such as reviews. Please help

    Kind Regards

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with the Instant Indexing plugin in Rank Math. It sounds frustrating, especially since you rely on it for time-sensitive content.

Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot the 404 error:

    1. Check Plugin Activation: Ensure that the Instant Indexing module is activated in your Rank Math settings. You can do this by navigating to WordPress Dashboard → Rank Math SEO → Modules and confirming that Instant Indexing is enabled.

    2. Clear Cache: Since you mentioned having issues with caching, make sure to clear any caching plugins you might be using, as well as your browser cache. This can sometimes resolve conflicts that lead to 404 errors.

    3. Reinstall the Plugin: If the above steps do not work, consider uninstalling and then reinstalling the Instant Indexing plugin to ensure it is properly set up.

    4. Check for Conflicts: Sometimes, other plugins or themes can conflict with Rank Math. Try deactivating other plugins temporarily to see if that resolves the issue.

    5. Review Server Settings: Ensure that your server settings allow for the necessary requests that the Instant Indexing feature requires.

If you continue to experience issues after trying these steps, please reply to this ticket, and a human agent from the Rank Math Support team will assist you further.

Thank you for bringing this concern to our attention! We hope to help you resolve it soon.

I have tried all these steps and am still encountering a problem

    Hello,

Assuming you have submitted the URL, that means that the URL was still not processed by the Indexing API from Google. It’s important to note that the requirements for that have changed and now the URLs go through rigorous spam detection.

Besides that, the guidelines now state that this is exclusive to a particular set of websites, so if your website doesn’t fall under that category or is considered spammy the submission will go through but the API will never parse the URLs.

You can check the full guidelines here: https://developers.google.com/search/apis/indexing-api/v3/quickstart
