Pinterest issue

    Hi,

We are having an issue with Pinterest.

When we pin images from our blog posts on to Pinterest, the title of my pins is being changed to this weird title that says: “Hosted Site Search & Discovery for Companies of All Sizes” instead of Outer Banks, North Carolina. See example pin here:
    https://www.pinterest.com/pin/87186942774193960/?nic_v2=1a208Pwbu

We thought it might be an issue with Rich Pins either being disconnected or not working properly, and we sent a request to Pinterest support and this was their response:

“I have checked your pin: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/87186942774193960/ and web page URL: https://www.ytravelblog.com/fun-things-to-do-in-outer-banks/ and see that you have installed Rich pin tags in your website.

However, I have checked your source page and see that you have installed both Open Graph and Item prop tags. As the Open graph has been installed first in the header so the Pinterest system will consider Open Graph tags only.

I see there is a lot of space between the tags that you have installed. So I would suggest you place the tags once again as it is in our developer documentation and please do add any spaces between the tags then add your data between the inverted commas(” “) that you want to insert for your rich pins.

I would suggest you please contact your web hosting company to help you accordingly.

If you wish not to see the Rich pins on your pins then do let me know so I could help you accordingly”.

We then contacted our developer who said:

“Your site metadata looks correct on output otherwise Facebook and co would complain as well so seems to be Pinterest specific. And I have no idea where the spacing issue they mentioned is, there’s no real code space at all in the header of your site. Might be worth asking the RankMath folks since it’s their output that controls how the open graph tags Pinterest are using get output”.

Can Rank Math please shed some light on this? As it is affecting all my Pinterest images.

    Thanks,
    Craig

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.
I checked the URL you shared with Pinterest debugger: https://developers.pinterest.com/tools/url-debugger/ and your site doesn’t appear to have rich pins enabled.

Please ensure you have claimed your domain: https://in.pinterest.com/settings/claim/ and added the meta tag to Rank math > General settings > Webmasters > Pinterest verification ID field
(here is a screencast for reference: https://i.rankmath.com/pYSeod)

If you haven’t please do. It should take at least a day to verify and claim your site.

You can then take one of your posts URL and follow the instructions here at Rich pins Validator

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

    Hi Michael,

Thanks for your response. Almost certain we have done all these steps previously, but did have a website overhall recently so maybe something happened there. Will go through those steps mentioned.

    Thanks,
    Craig

    Hello,

It is also possible that it was a technical issue with your web host at the time you posted this.

Moreover, it is also worth checking what the title is when Rank Math is disabled. That will help us determine if the issue is from Rank Math or from something else on your website.

    Hi Michael / Uzair,

I have claimed my domain for Pinterest. And have added the meta tag to Rank math > General settings > Webmasters > Pinterest verification ID field.

But when I go to the Rich Pins Validator: https://developers.pinterest.com/tools/url-debugger/ and enter my URL it says: “The data we scraped from your site could not be validated”

    Hi Michael / Uzair,

I found out what the problem was. Tested with a staging site and Debugged the issue to my WP Search with Algolia plugin. With that enabled rich pins fail and pull that weird title, with it turned off Rich Pins work.

Looked up the Algolia plugin and found the exact issue on the support forum:
    https://wordpress.org/support/topic/algolia-injecting-title-into-pinterest-pin/

Seems to be a bug in their setup thats been going on for awhile so will avoid that till they resolve it.

    Hello,

We are glad you were able to find the cause of the issue.

You can decide to deactivate the plugin or check with their support to see if there is a workaround.

Hope that helps. If you have any further question(s), please let us know. Thank you.
