Portfolio pages

    I have 95 portfolio pages that showcase past project photos of residential and commercial houses we did before. I notice there isn’t much clicks, but they do have impressions, for past 3 months.

    I am wondering if I should just noindex the whole project. I believe it’s pulling down the ranking of my other money pages. Please advice.

  • Hello,

    We apologize for the issue you are facing with your portfolio pages. It sounds like you are considering whether to noindex these pages due to their low click-through rates and potential negative impact on your other important pages.

    Based on the context, here are a few points to consider:

    1. Noindexing: If you believe that these portfolio pages are not adding value and are affecting the overall quality of your site, you can indeed use the noindex directive. This will prevent search engines from indexing these pages while still allowing users to access them. You can do this directly in Rank Math by enabling the Noindex option for these pages.

    2. Content Audit: Conducting a content audit might also be beneficial. Identify if there are any outdated or low-quality pages that could be removed or improved. If the portfolio pages lack valuable content or engagement, it may be wise to consider removing them or redirecting to more relevant content.

    3. Canonical Tags: If there are duplicate content issues, ensure that you have set canonical tags correctly to point to the main content you want indexed.

    4. Improving Quality: If you decide to keep the portfolio pages, consider enhancing their content to make them more engaging. This could involve adding detailed descriptions, client testimonials, or case studies that showcase the projects more effectively.

    Ultimately, if you feel that these pages are not serving your goals, noindexing them could help improve the overall site quality and focus search engine attention on your more important pages.

    How do I nonindex the whole project ?

    I can’t seem to find the settings to do that in rankmath.

    Hello,

    You may check the default meta robots for those URLs in Rank Math > Titles & Meta > [Projects Post Type] and set them to noindex in this section

    robots

    In case those are not registered in Rank Math post types, you may use this filter to set them to noindex:

    add_filter( 'rank_math/frontend/robots', function( $robots ) {
    $url = home_url( $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'] );
    if (strpos($url,'/project/') !== false) {
    $robots['index'] = "noindex";
    $robots['follow'] = "follow";
    };
    return $robots;
    });

    You may refer to this guide on how to add filters to your website:

    Hope that helps.

    I have set this:
    https://connectbit.tinytake.com/msc/MTAxOTQ3OTNfMjM4NzM4MDU

    And set the robots to this:
    User-agent: *
    Disallow: /wp-admin/
    Disallow: /project/*
    Disallow: /project_category/*
    Allow: /wp-admin/admin-ajax.php

    Would above help ? Do you think i should just turn off the whole ‘project robots meta’ ?

    Hello,

    If those projects are already set to noindex, then you won’t need this rule in your robots.txt:

    Disallow: /project/*

    Crawlers and bots should be able to crawl those URLs and read the noindex directives set in their meta tags.

    Looking forward to helping you.
