  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with the 404 error while using the Instant Indexing feature. A "Not Found (404)" error occurs when a user or Googlebot tries to access a URL on your website that does not exist. This can happen if the page has been removed, the URL is incorrect, or broken links point to the non-existent page.

To resolve this issue, you can follow these steps:

    1. Redirect Removed Pages: If the page has moved, create a 301 redirect from the old URL to the new one. This helps preserve any link equity from the old URL. You can refer to our guide on how to do this.
    2. Fix Broken Links: Check internal and external links pointing to the missing page and update them accordingly. If possible, reach out to the sites linking to your deleted pages and request an update to the correct URL.
    3. Create a Custom 404 Page: Design a user-friendly 404 page that guides visitors to helpful content on your site. Include links to popular posts or a search bar to help users find what they want.

If you continue to experience issues, please reply to this ticket, and a human agent from the Rank Math Support team will assist you further. Thank you for raising this concern!

    Hello,

We already explained what the 404 error means here: https://support.rankmath.com/ticket/error-404-requested-entity-was-not-found-error-while-using-instant-indexing/?view=all#post-876704

It’s important to note that if you rely on the Instant Indexing API from Google to get your website crawled and indexed you should really focus on improving the structure of the website to make it easier for Google to discover it without it.

This tool should be considered only as experimental and the usage according to the guidelines is specific to only a few types of websites. We also mention the same in our documentation.

As for the ETA on a fix for this matter, we still don’t have one but when we do we’ll let everyone know through the usual communication channels.

    Thank you.

    Hello,

    Thank you.
